Wow… amazing stuff, been zooming in on the screenshots for the last hour ^ ^

Excellent work really! And though HDR would be great, tbh, SDR is more optimal, it makes it so much easier to play on lots of different players/hardware without having to worry about the performance or the color being off etc., some players struggle with the HDR playback, especially on slow laptops ^ ^;

Would love a link (especially if there is a torrent up) plz, would really make an excellent Christmas surprise for my gf who is a huge LOTR fan!

Huge THX in advance! 😃

I just watched Fellowship and gotta say you did an amazing job. The 35mm version already looked really good but this is definitely the best way to watch the trilogy.

What would at the moment be the best versions for the extended editions? I know there is a 35mm version and regrades (like 44rh1n version) of fellowship extended, but what’s the way to go for two towers and return of the king?

Would love to have these versions. I would also seed them and spread them across, with your permission. If you don’t want to, then that’s fine by me.

Hi, I’d like to request a link! It’s surreal seeing scans that align with my memory as a kid.

Just watched Two Towers and wanted to give some feedback. It looks really great for the most part. The colors are beautiful, except for a couple shots in the snow that look a bit too purple. Especially the openingshots but perhaps a few others as well. Not sure if it’s also the case in the original 35mm scan though, but it’s definitely noticeable.

Has anyone gotten a link they could share? Sent a message a couple weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. Looks like Remsouille hasn’t been on in a while…

It seems like ffmpeg doesn’t like the MKV as input, had the same VFR issue when remuxing to MP4. I had to extract the videostream from the source MKV first with mkvtoolnix and gMKVExtractGui:

https://www.videohelp.com/software/MKVToolNix
https://www.videohelp.com/software/gMKVExtractGUI

Open gMKVExtractGUI, set the mkvtoolnix path, select the video stream and hit extract, which gives you a file called “LOTR FOTR HDR 23_98fps_track1_[eng].hevc”

You can then use MP4Box (part of GPAC Tools: https://www.videohelp.com/software/MP4Box ) with this command to remux the HEVC file into a new MP4 container, keeping the constant 23.976fps:

MP4Box -add "LOTR FOTR HDR 23_98fps_track1_[eng].hevc" -new "LOTR FOTR HDR 23_98fps.mp4"

ffmpeg also worked after extracting the videostream (with warnings though):

ffmpeg -i "LOTR FOTR HDR 23_98fps_track1_[eng].hevc" -c copy "LOTR FOTR HDR 23_98fps.mp4"

I’m on osx, so unfortunately I can’t use MKVextractgui…

Not sure if this helps but you can do essentially the same thing as MKVextractGUI on macOS via ffmpeg to extract just the video stream. An example of the command would be:

ffmpeg -i "/path/to/file/lotr.fotr.mkv" -c:0 copy "/path/to/output/lotr.fotr.hevc"

This command will copy the contents of the first stream of the input file to an output file, in the example is an hevc file. If the video stream is located on a different stream id, just change to -c:0 to -c:X with the correct stream ID.

Also, I would enjoy having the original MKV files if they are available. Thank you for all your hard work!

Helooooo - this looks totally amazing. Hats off to the dude who made it that’s amazing work. I can’t for the life of me fathom why the cultural consciousness decided at some point in the 2000s that everything should look grey and sludgy - I’d love a copy of these films with a bright colour grade so if anyone could share a link it’d be so appreciated - thanks!

At the moment I personally don’t think there is a definitive way to watch FotR Extended. As you stated there is the 35mm scan from elendil, or the 44rh1n version. DrDre has released their Dremastered edition of Part 1 of FotR Extended, but there is no Part 2 yet. I believe the majority of their focus is currently on their color grade matching algorithm 2.0, it’s honestly mind blowing based on what they have shared so far (I encourage you to check out their thread on it). Personally, it’s my pipedream to attempt to use DrDre’s new algo, once finished and shared, on the 35mm scan of FotR Extended while targeting the color grade of the DVD Extended. But as of right now this a dream that requires patience.

Just wanted to say that these graded 35mm scans are absolutely gorgeous! None of the official home releases (especially 4K and Blu-ray ones) come close. This feels and looks like Middle-earth. Thank you remsouille for doing these!

Now if there was only someone capable and keen on cleaning up all the dirt, scratches etc. then we would have perfect release on our hands, the one to rule them all. But I realise that is a Herculean task.

Why does this not look like the dvd??? did Peter changed the original colors right from the first dvd?
