Hi, I’ve recently made my own regrade of this film, as the KK one was a bit too low bitrate for my tastes. I believe I’ve done a pretty good job, with even less teal showing through:

Let me know if you’re interested

Here are the encoding settings used on the KK650 render (video stream size: 14.1 GiB):

cabac=1 / ref=3 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=9 / psy=1 / psy_rd=1.00:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=24 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=2 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=2 / deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=1 / chroma_qp_offset=-4 / threads=12 / sliced_threads=0 / slices=1 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / interlaced=0 / constrained_intra=0 / bframes=3 / b_pyramid=0 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 / direct=3 / weightb=1 / open_gop=0 / weightp=2 / keyint=250 / keyint_min=23 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=60 / rc=2pass / mbtree=1 / bitrate=19500 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=5 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / vbv_maxrate=26500 / vbv_bufsize=26492 / nal_hrd=vbr / frame-packing=0 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:1.00

Thank you for sharing, I have some questions.

  • Which source are you comparing to in your screenshots?
  • How was your grading applied, scene by scene?
  • Which release are you using as the basis for your regrade: 35mm print, Laserdisc, Image DVD…?

The source in the screenshots is from the remastered blu-ray. I used the same settings for the entire film, not scene-by-scene. I basically lowered the color temperature, slightly increased the exposure to counteract the lowering of brightness, and increased the red to further counteract the cyan. I was using the kk650 regrade as my basis, as well as my own tastes in trying to eliminate cyan without going too far in the other direction.
