"For Your Consideration" ads are essentially a formality, and an excuse to spend buttloads of money on big, splashy, self-indulgent ads that very few people will ever see. They're also a strategic way of reminding folks reading the trade papers and magazines (BTW, Cinefex is abso-frickin-lutely awesome if you're an FX geek) that awards season is coming up. If enough people who fill out nomination forms put in the name of a less-than-stellar movie or one of its cast or crew, it will wind up getting on the official nominees list. Whether it has a snowball's chance on Mustafar of winning is irrelevant, because the people involved are forever able to say that they were nominated.
