...voiceover by William Shatner? Please explain!

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Those are some beautiful menus. I thought Dark Jedi's definitive transfer was great, and now with Boba Feta's menus and mono mix, these look like they will be the best sets yet. Looking forward to getting a copy of them!

Ya the trailer from the official DVDs where it goes "all this could be happening right now...." sounds like Shatner to me. Why have I got it wrong?

I guess I'll have to take another look at that trailer soon, it never clicked in my head that it could've been Shatner.

I kinda doubt it is Shatner. I've never heard anything to that effect nor did I think it sounded like him. And while the ESB trailer does kinda sound like Harrison Ford, it's never been confirmed. Just rumors and speculation. Maybe it's best to keep them off the menus.

And why the trailers on the ROTJ disc?

The Trailers are on the Jedi disc because I had no second soundtrack or isolated score to put on, and since I didn't want to just put the solitary Trailer on there I put all three.

Well... I've been a Star Trek fan longer than I've been a Star Wars fan. I first saw Star Trek when I was four years old and its been over 30 years now and I think I'm a pretty good judge of a voice. I tell you this - I am absolutely convinced that this is not only William Shatner on this Star Wars Trailer but Harrison Ford on the Empire trailer. What's more if anyone on this board can conclusively prove me wrong. I will leave this place and never return.

I don't see why it's so much of a stretch for Shatner, it was the late 70's, Star Trek was well in the can, Shatner was known as a great voice over talent and what's more he's even known for doing other movie trailers.

If it is indeed a mistake and I end up looking like a fool, I'll take it on the chin, admit my mistake and leave.

Watching it again, I can see the resemblance to Shatner's voice. However, if it is him, he must've been instructed to speak with an unnatural faux-British accent and then was pitch-shifted down, because his voice is much lower than I've ever heard it before and it doesn't sound like whoever is doing is is trying to lower his voice.

Absolutely right. IMO it does indeed sound like the pitch has been shifted at least 4 but more likely around 10% however, to me (as neither a brit or a yank) his accent sounds perfectly acceptable American if not toned down slightly by the slower speech.

Is there any way to maybe re-phase shift it so that we could all prove it once & for all? For instance, could the same technique used in phase shifting the 4% PAL speedup to NTSC be done here?

a thought. BTW, boba, the set looks awesome.

And also - THE ARRIVAL: Pioneer Special Edition (with dual audio - commentary track)

They will all be dual layer discs and I'm kicking the idea around to include a Isolated Score on the SW LD's, I only has SW captured and it will be a few weeks before they are all done so you would have time to finish your other projects if you would like to help out - I'm just floored by your menu work man!!

Oh dude, I dunno if I can shell out for all those DL DVDs. Why the need, are you planning on running some filters through the video post capture?

Probably the biggest reason I doubt the William Shatner thing is because this is the first time I've heard of it. Wouldn't Shatner's affiliation with Star Wars be a well known fact among movie trivia nuts especially considering the Star Trek/Star Wars thing? It just seems to be more of an assumption than a fact. There's no evidence that it isn't him, but there's nothing other than the opinion that it kinda sounds like him that says it is.

Yep. I spose you're right. But if I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the worst mistake I'd seen on a fanmade disc.

That all depends on what country you're in.

Honestly, I just like DL media and these are really more JUST for me BUT this would also be the first OT capture that I'd be willing to release (the last kinda blew) - IF you were intersted you could author as DL then spread the raw files of 2 standard DVD's and I'll reconstruct them (I'll even provide the discs if you'd like ), I'm still going to complete them and have some menus all set-up but they just lack the flair of yours; I'd just really would like them to have menus that rock! - And as for the Arrival LD, it has the making of and some other extars that I'd like to get on one disc if possible - NOW If I can get this CCE encoder to work right I might have single layer versions also...

OK I've started designing my own website to showcase my collection of covers. The Defcol Collection is there for those who are interested. Check it out if you need any of my work. Soon to be added are Bladerunner and ADM's Hannibal.

Boba's Workshop.

Cheers
