A 720p preview of Reel 1 is available upon request via PM. It contains a stereo downmix of the refurbished 1956 Fantasound mix.

A few things to keep in mind:

The preview’s opening does not reflect how the film will open in the completed project.
This preview used proxy files encoded at a significantly lower bitrate than the original ProRes files. Compression artifacts and color banding of any kind will not be in the final render.
Hiss reduction has not yet been applied to the audio mix. Instead, I’ve temporarily applied a hard cutoff at 8,000hz to eliminate excessive noise in the upper region of the frequency spectrum. Like everything else, the signal-to-noise ratio will be more carefully addressed and improved.
Any spliced-in footage used to fill missing gaps is temporary and will later be replaced with footage from another print.
Reel 1 has more horizontal scratches than any other reel in the print, the rest of which— including the spare reels— is much cleaner and less compromised.
Audio EQ is also not yet finalized.
Unlike the Dolby Surround mix from the 1991 LaserDisc, this stereo downmix contains no matrix-encoded surround information. Do not feed it through a Dolby Surround/Pro-Logic decoder, as it will not properly unfold an LCRS mix.

Phase correction and hiss reduction are all that remain before the restored stereo tracks can be mixed in surround, and I’m nearly halfway done with the former. As I’ve said before, I cannot, in good faith, promise this will be done sooner than many would prefer, but I can promise that it will be worth the wait. 'til next time. ✌️
