What is the REAL reason George doesn't want anyone to see the O-OT?

He's basically dissowned the films for years now, but I would love to know exactly WHY George wants to basically erase it from public conscience. To him, the films that turned him from a modestly successful filmmaker to King George are rough drafts that nobody should be allowed to see. To me, that means that George really DOES care what people think of him. It's very ironic that George cares what people think about the special effects, but he doesn't seem to care what people think about the directing, writing, plot holes, and acting. Otherwise, he'd be deleting Jar Jar Binks and redubbing some of the bad dialogue.

I think it's a very interesting that George doesn't want to let anyone see the films. Is he ashamed of those versions? Or perhaps does he see the films as a reflection of himself. If he keeps updating the films, they won't get old, which means he won't get old either? I'm no psychologist, so I'm pretty sure there's some underlying personal reason why GL has not only disowned the original versions of the classic films, but wants to control the public's ability to see cleaned up remastered versions of the O-OT.
George Lucas was seduced by the dark side. The OOT ceased to exist in his mind and became the Special Editions...." "They're more maching now than movies. Twisted and evil."

you make a good point, maybe it has something to do with gary kurtz, or marcia lucas, or irvin kershner, or even 20th century fox, that leaves a real bad taste in his mouth now

I think George is just Really Into CGI and how Computers are used to make films. and the O-OT was made more "Old School" IMO.

He's all about the "New School".

I think it could be because his ex-wife Marcia Lucas edited the original movies and even won an Oscar for ANH while George Lucas lost. The SE were re-edited by other people. It could be because George hated his ex-wife, and it really sucks to be jealous of someone you hate.

I have heard a funny/sad thing about his ex-wife (depending on your point of view). If you ever get to Skywalker Ranch, you should never ever say ANYTHING about the stained glass windows. If GL happens to be nearby and hears you, you would be thrown out at once and banned for life.
The reason is that his ex-wife married one of the guys who built the windows ...
I was amazed when I heard this the first time, but it has been confirmed by several people.

Ouch. That sucks. I don't know if I'd wish that on anyone, even someone as egomaniacally bloated as George Lucas.

On the note of Irvin Kershner, Kershner said in an interview he asked George why he asked him to do ESB when there were all these "young hot shots" around, and he said George's reply was "Well, you know everything a Hollywood director should know, but you're not Hollywood." I hear Kershner was even offered to direct ROTJ with complete creative freedom and everything, but he politely declined because he found making ESB too exhausting or something.
