Would it work structurally to have Rey leave for Ach-To in TLJ? Like, TFA just ends with them celebrating the destruction of Starkiller Base and then TLJ opens with them recieving the last piece of the map to Luke or something?

I’ve always wanted a time skip between the two films to be more like the rest of the Saga and add some implicit adventures in between, and this is just my latest idea for achieving that. Previously I’d just tried having Rey and Chewie wander for a year between movies following the map but I think this would work better.

The problem is that BB-8’s macguffin wouldn’t work well without it having a payoff at the end. Would reinstating the initial idea of it being Luke’s lightsaber work? Idk what the significance of it was going to be, unfortunately.
