Sometimes that is the best method because of dot crawl which shows up in more in the reds. The connectors are composite and so is the LD source. When I used S-Video, I had a bunch of dot crawl in the picture (little dots in the reds). A lot of people noticed the same thing on their projects. If possible, I would try out S-Video as well to see which one works best for you.
