Anyone have the extra footage of this movie that was shown on TV in the 80’s. Here is the list of alternate scenes.

Additional scenes include the following:

A lengthy scene in a Surubaya bar showing Prescott drugging a Petrox crewman.

A scene of Joe & Boan playing cards & being interrupted by a Captain Ross on the loudspeaker calling all hands to assemble in the mess room. Boan wisecracking about Petrox bought by Howard Hughes & working for the CIA.

A scene of a mexican crew member named Garcia spying on Dwan while she’s showering, ends with Jack tossing Garcia overboard with a life preserver.

A scene showing the crew watching an old movie on TV. Roy Bagley observing the oil-like substance under a microscope, he swigs some wine & calls for a boat to take him ashore.
Longer battle between Kong & the gigantic snake, ends with an alternate and less gory take of Kong killing the snake & beating his chest.

Extra footage of Kong breaking through the wall.

Before Jack enters Dwan’s dressing room he is confronted by a security guard.

Additional dialogue between Dwan & Wilson.

During Kong’s rampage a Petrox head exectutive tells Wilson he’s fired.

After Kong steps on Wilson, the camera pulls back to reveal that all that’s left in Kong’s footprint is Wilson’s hat.

A scene of Dwan & Jack talking & running down a street trying to hotwire a car.

A scene of a car running in front of Kong,Kong picks it up & throws it against a building, where it explodes.

The three hour, two-part television version also includes:

A longer scene of Kong attacking the elevated train.

A longer scene of Kong hiding from search helicopters at the East River waterfront.

-Additional dialogue between Jack and Dwan in the bar.

-Two brief, additional clips of the military gaurding the Queensboro Bridge.

-An alternate, extended scene of Kong destroying the power station.

A longer scene of the City Official concurring with military advisors at City Hall, including a general telling the official they don’t have time to get Prescott’s head examined, and another advisor telling the official that standing around won’t get him votes.

Extended scene of Kong peering in the window at Dwan in the bar.

A short scene of a military official ordering jet fighters to be aborted and choppers sent in instead.

A scene of Jack stealing a discarded ten-speed bike and racing after Kong down a New York street.

Three short clips of Kong lumbering down Wall Street with Dwan in hand.

A brief clip of the helicopter gunships taking off.

An extended scene of Kong climbing the World Trade Center and pausing to rest a moment about halfway up.

I know many people don’t like this film but I don’t think it is a bad film.

Someone has already put together what appears to be a nice fan-made extended cut DVD with some minor extras. He's been selling it on Ebay lately and I just bought one last week. I hope to be getting it any day now so I'll let you guys know about the quality. The odd thing is that he claims its in widescreen. No idea how he did that since this would have to have been taken from the extended TV broadcast. He's got good feedback from others who have already bought this DVD, so I'm assuming its exactly as he describes in the auction. I guess we'll know soon enough....

Regardless my thoughts on the '76 version, which aren't that positive btw, I'm still a King Kong fan and would love to have an edit along these lines. But in WIDESCREEN! I was hoping special editions of both this and the sequel (King Kong Lives) would be released to coincide with Peter Jackson's remake, but apparently not. The original films were the more deserving of course, but Kong is Kong.

Well that's what I expected anyway since there's no available widescreen source of the extra scenes. Can you comment on the movie's picture quality and the extras he has on it? Maybe even post some screencaps? I'm still waiting for the DVD myself...

When the 1933 Kong DVD was announced earlier this year, the 1976 Kong was rumored to be getting a special edition release as well. And yet when it came out it was just a barebones re-release with nothing but the trailer, same as the first DVD release. Only difference I'm aware of is the new DVD cover. I was disappointed that it didn't get a better release this time, at least with the extra scenes from the TV cut. What a waste...

the quality is second generation VHS. extras are only the trailer from the r1 dvd.

like I said before some extra scenes exist in widescreen on the french dvd and in 16x9 mode

I know there's a two-disc DVDR somewhere that's widescreen... BUT all the additional scenes are in full screen and lower quality. I don't know if they're just inserted taken from tape and inserted into a DVD rip, or if it was shown that way on some TV channel and recorded from it...

I haven't seen it, either, so I don't know if "full screen" in this case means open matte or Castrate-n-Scam.

Really? That contradicts even more of what the auction description shows. In addition to the theatrical trailer, his DVD set supposedly has the television teaser commercial, part 2 previews for the 2nd night of airing, and some kind of slideshow gallery. Even the pics of the different menus on his auction show this. Are you sure your version is the same one in the auction I linked above?

you are right, the artwork on the disc confused me. because I have the same artwork except it is written fullscreen on my disc

it is not the same dvd. the guy sells a 144 min version in widescreen (based i think on a reedit of the french dvd with in inclusion of the widescreen deleted scenes).

What I bought on dvd is a 177 minutes version, in fullscreen from a TV edit.

Yup, you're right... I got the DVD today. It's definitely 144 minutes (10+ min longer than the theatrical version) and its completely in widescreen. Picture quality is pretty good. I'm sure you're right about him using that french DVD as the source for the extra scenes. I'd still like to get the full 3 hour TV version though. Perhaps we could do a trade if you're interested in this version too...
