why he does it... (Lucas destroying his own creation)

this may have been mentioned before but here is my theory:

star wars has become such an obsessive phenomenon that the very ppl who became rich and famous from it actually despise it now. i remember an interview with carrie fisher a few years ago and she was pissed off with fanatics coming up to her and worshipping her like a real princess leia. they had no idea the power these films would have. i think the destruction of the original cuts and the refusal to release them along with the painfully bad new films is a deliberate attempt by lucas to destroy his own creation and therefore putting an end to our obsessive behaviour.

I am not really obsessive as I was as a kid/younger adult and before The Prequels so it may/has have/had a effect on my obsession.Revenge of the Sith slighty wanting the O.O.T officialy, this site and what goes on, and my love of the Classic Trilogy is what keeps me going in Star Wars this is what gives Star Wars precedent over my other film interests, I am now not bothered about EU crap, the other two movies that much if at all, buying lots/any (of )merchandise,or any future Star Wars projects when a time ago I would have been enthuasiac about all.
But one day i may leave Star Wars all behind as I think others have said should the O.O.T ever get released officialy and I will let the Prequels and SE guys have their time, but my love of the Classic Trilogy will not ever go away.... .

of course! i am the same, however this theory shows how naive lucas is with his audience. instead of embracing the success and impact of his films he decides to ruin it.

You know...that theory has never come up in my mind.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least that Lucas probably hates SW cuz it's all he'll be remembered for. He's probably really freaked out by how much many fans are into it. Pretty sad actually. I would be really, really jazzed if people were that into something that I created.

It kind of reminds me of how the Seattle grunge bands handled success back in the early 90s. Many of them just ran away from the spotlight. Pearl Jam refused to make any music videos and that was practically inviting death, especially in the video age of music. Once the steam ran out on that whole genre of music, PJ's popularity tanked, partly due to that lack of videos playing on MTV. I could interpret that as the band wanting to reduce their success somewhat, but it doesn't make too much sense really.

The only person who can answer that is Lucas.......but he's made so much money off of SW so why would he feel that way......well....since when does anything Lucas does make sense anymore, right?

success can certainly get to our heads thats for sure! in the beginning we crave it and will do anything to accomplish what we truly believe in, but once you have the fame and fortune were do you go from there? alot of ppl self-destruct and (almost) ruin what got them there in the first place! as an artist who makes music or film it should be youre duty to sustain your beliefs and your art. think about the psychological impact of being famous, so many ppl getting inside your head, critisizing your every word and action. for me this is lucas' problem, he wants to end his success and cut himself from his millions of fans and live the quiet family life and forget about star wars.

I've suspected something like this for a while myself. And yes, if all you go after is success, than once you attain it; what then? That's why there has to be something bigger than achieving success dominate in your life. That's why it's not such a great thing being under the power of gold.
