Jarring modern parlance in a fantasy realm is always a problem.

Padme calling children, "kids" doesn't work where as Han calling Luke, "Kid" does.

Cliegg Lars referring to his wife as his "partner" doesn't work either.

This is meant to be a long time ago in a galaxy, far, far away not the a cheap daytime soap or a bit of office gossip.

The German version is even worse. As Cliegg tells them, that he can't ride anymore, because of his leg, or better, it's absence, he says (in German) he "couldn't ride a horse".
I couldn't help it but shouting through the theatre "What's a horse???"

Sadly...

Also I noticed this hadn't been mentioned yet:

"How many times have I told you to stay away from the power couplings!"

LOL REFERENCE TO TPM WHEN ANAKIN TELLS JAR JAR THAT AND NOW HE IS THE ONE IN THE POWER COUPLINGS! ACTUAL LITERAL HUMOUR!

Edit: Oh wait. It was. I thought I remembered reading it on here before. OH WELL.

Its been a while since I watched this flick, but if I remember right:

After first using electric guitar mines a few times, then chasing Obi Wan's spaceship blasting a repeating laser gun for 30 seconds from about 10 feet away, Jango finally hits Obi ONCE! Then Boba laughs, and instead of trying to hit him again, Jango says

"Time to finish him off!"

and fires the extremely ineffective heat seaking missiles he'd been saving for some reason.

Author
Time

That whole scene is shit, to be honest. The way Jango was stuck to Obi-Wan's tail and the speed at which his blasters are firing means he should have smoked Obi-Wan in seconds.

Sure it looked neat, but there's no way that would have been the outcome. There were millions of better ways to do that scene.

The only cool thing about that scene was the sounddesign.

Worst dialogue? Hmm....

Padme: I'm not afraid of dying. I've been dying ever since-

NO. I can watch Boba Fett's stupid in-cockpit shots during the planet ring chase, but this scene takes the cake. It's longer, more cringe inducing, and it's being delivered by Natalie Portman who I firmly believe is a talented performer. Without a doubt, the worst romantic dialogue I have ever endured. I still feel embarrassed sitting next to people when that scene plays out because they might think I'm a prequel apologist who actually likes it. I don't!

Time

It might be a good sample for a fan editor to work on though.

You could use it make out Padme had some kind of progressive degenerative disease since the day she was born.

It's better than having her squeeze out a couple of kids and abandon them to her broken heart.

'You will find that we are... On schedule?'

The line delivery of that line seems... weird...

yeah, when i went to check out receivers and speakers, I would bring the dvd with me as a test.

A lot of people don't like this scene for various reasons:

-rehash of ESB (lucas covers his ass by talking about poems and stanzas and apologists fall for it)

-jango did everything to blow up the ship and it still didn't blow up

-the seismic charges

I think the real problem was it was yet another meaningless action sequence - there was no real change in plot before or after.  at least in the droid factory scene, it led to anakin and padme being captured.  at least it was more fun than TPMs horrifc planet core sequence.

anyway, so many lines of dialog are bad its hard to come up with one :(

i'll go with padme:

"perhaps with merely your presence, the mysteries surrounding this threat will be revealed.  Now if you'll excuse me, I will retire"

it shows that even when the dialog isn't gag inducing, it still sucks.

how about just saying "maybe you'll catch the assassin in the act and that'll be the end of it" !?

its hard to classify the dialog between just rotten dialog and dialog thats illogical.  for example, when mace asks obi-wan if he thinks the cloners are part of the plot, obi-wan say "no master, there appears to be no motive"  WTF!?  padme is part of the OPPOSITION to create an army!!  they would have every motive in the world to kill her!!  or when padme asks anakin "whats wrong, ani?"  um...his mom just got killed?

for a fun drinking game, count how many times the word "archive" is used..or "my young apprentice/padawan".  Poor Ewan was right- the greatest acclaimation you can give to Alec Guinness is that beyond all his great roles, he managed to create a memorable performance in spite of lucas' destructive incompetance.

based on zombies book, jonathan hales was brought on to co-write the script but there was so little time left, its unlikely he changed much.  so he was either put in a position to fail, or this was a PR move in light of TPMs backlash.

That always makes me laugh.  Two guys talking to each other while having different conversations.

Brilliant editing.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

"Where are you going?"

"To find my mother."

This scene is obviously designed to parallel Luke's "I guess I'm going nowhere," but Hayden really sounds uncharacteristically whiny here, exceeding all expectations.  It loses what emotion the scene had managed to accrue.  And why didn't Beru ask the question since we were going for a parallel?

worst dialogue? Um, from the beginning screen crawl, to the credits.  U all have posted some doozies though.  here's another

Fireplace scene with ani & padme.

Padme(usual monotone): "we live in a real world, come back to it.  Im a senator and your studying to be a jedi"

And I love how Luca$ has her wearing an "eat me" outfit all the while rejecting anakins' advances.

Also the "dellow feligates" speech during the senate hearing by SENATOR jarjar.  Senator jarjar? Really Luca$?  Nice writing there with having that orange dipshit make critical decisions.

I stand corrected.  Its still a shitty scene though.

this was one of the very few non-action scenes that had some creating filmmaking by having the camera follow mace as he is entering the chamber and witnessing the proceedings along with yoda.  99% of the time, its just usually a 2 or 3 people walking very slowly - one person says something, another responds (usually disagreeing) and then the first person offers one final comment before the scene closes.  RLM exposed this beautifully.  In any other movie, it probably would not be noticed, but because so much of the PT is sterile and without any creativity, it sticks out.

so it starts off as an interesting scene - the problem i have now is that theres a logical flaw:

before, Organa said the senate would never vote for a clone army (which in itself is a plothole but thats another topic) and Palpatines aid says with emrgency powers, he can bypass the senate.

So Jar jar proposes emergency powers - and the entire senate falls in line and goes along with it!?!? if the senate would not approve the army, why would they go along with emergency powers knowing that palpatine would then order an army right then and there!?

the whole clone plot of AOTC falls flat on its face long before this scene.  And maybe its nitpicking compared to the more glaring flaws of the PT.  But with PT apologists raving in awe over the "machiavellen", "intrigue","slieght of hand" plots, it needs to be pointed out that palpatine can only do this because everyone around him is dumber than a bag of rocks and acts completely illogical. and not just illogical given the circumstances, but also against their own emotions.

“dellow felagates.”

Just an example of the numbing dialogue found throughout the movie.

“Don’t tell anyone… but when ‘Star Wars’ first came out, I didn’t know where it was going either. The trick is to pretend you’ve planned the whole thing out in advance. Throw in some father issues and references to other stories - let’s call them homages - and you’ve got a series.” - George Lucas

There were too many scenes like this throughout the three Prequels films.

That was a fun watch.

Padme: “Gather what troops you can. We’ve got to get to that hangar.

(who hasn’t any idea or knowledge that Dooku was going to a hangar at all, let alone a specific hangar)

The weirdest thing about AOTC is how it starts off with a fairly interesting mystery of “who tried to kill Queen Amidala?” The assassination mystery was a nice hook to grab audience interest and kick off the plot. But bizarrely, the mystery sort of just fizzles out, and ends up mostly forgotten by the characters after Act I. The mystery is eventually resolved in such an incidental and anti-climactic way (during a brief conversation between Dooku and Nute Gunray on Geonosis) that I didn’t even notice it the first time I saw AOTC. It turns out Nute Gunray wanted Padme dead for some unexplained reason, I guess as simple revenge for the events in Phantom Menace. So Padme’s attempted assassination had nothing to do with her opposition to the creation of an army for the Republic - indeed it had nothing at all to do with the main plot of AOTC. It’s also weird that Nute Gunray, who has all the resources of the Trade Federation at his disposal, needs to ask Count Dooku to hire some assassin to kill Amidala.

Also, given that Count Dooku is “in the know” concerning Palpatine’s secret plan to start a war, it would have made more sense (and been more relevant to the plot) if Dooku himself was solely behind the assassination, since he wanted to make sure the Republic ended up with an army, and Padme could potentially have decreased the chances of that happening. It would also be somewhat of an ironic twist, since the audience would be inclined to suspect that some pro-army faction of the Republic was behind the assassination attempt. The audience shouldn’t suspect the Separatists, since the Separatists should ostensibly be aligned with Padme’s goal of preventing the creation of an army for the Republic. Then again, the whole Republic/Separatist conflict itself is so poorly fleshed out that the audience probably barely has any idea what’s going on anyway.
