Do you think Lucas really knows there is demand for the O-OT on DVD?

I am being serious now, but do you think Lucas really knows how much the older fans want the O-OT on DVD. Here are a couple of theories about Lucas:

1. Maybe he saw the success financially of the prequels, and thinks everyone is hunky-dory with the state of the SW saga?

2. Maybe he just lives in a box, and just has no idea that there is a demand for the O-OT?

3. Maybe no one at Lucasfilm has the guts to say to him how much the older fanbase is pissed off at the changes, and how alienated they have become, and thinks everyone loves the new editions?

4. Maybe he is just stubborn and hates the originals, especially ANH, so much he will never put them out?

5. Maybe he just doesn't care, and these are the final editions and we have to live with it?

A couple of theories, what you think?

I would say 4 and 5

I am sure he would be aware some of the older fans dont like the Prequels and the Special Editions but doesnt care.

Probably a combination of all those.

I figure he's never been 100% satisfied with the OT from the get go.....which is understandable. That quote about films being abandoned and stuff, ya know. But at the same time, he can't be that naive to not understand the influence his films have had and the importance that the they have in the lives of fans who saw them originally.

I personally think he's flipped his fuckin' lid. He's got money, power, influence and all the fame and asskissing has short-circuited his brain, so he's doing all kinds of crazy shit that doesn't make any sense.

His continued tinkering and re-releasing of the films is SOLID FUCKING proof that he is wired a little wrong. That is obsessive-complusive behavior. He's said he wants full control over his films. He's a control freak. The actors have complained about his directing style. He's a control freak.

He's nuts. The man has a few screws loose. And Bizzle can sprout all he wants about how I'm making all these assumptions...Lucas is crazier than a rat in a fucked up shithouse!!!

But McCallum has said that the suits in LFL want to release the OOT cuz they know of the demand and have been watching this site very closely. Lucas is the roadblock there.

Yeah....isn't it unholy ironic that we're cheering for the money makers instead of the artist here???

well, the artist is being unnesassarily stubborn about something that could actually make money. I personally think that he doesn't care because if you think about having to please all those people it gets insanely hard to do anything creative.

It's not hard to just release the original versions. It's not like he has to move the sun, earth and moon for us here.

A lot of other releases have the original and the whatever cut.

LOL, you still don't know what you're talking about, but at least you know I'm calling you on it. That's somehow comforting. Next dance I'll lead

And yeah, Lucas Marketing (Jim Ward, himself, on a couple occasions, I believe) has been trying to get the originals released for awhile now.

It is indeed, but I'm pulling for the suits also. Give me the first film in it's original form and I'll be very happy. After that, I won't care if he releases 10 different versions.

The first version of the first film, George, that's all. As the band Nazareth put it....." I aint asking for much"

Heaven forbid anyone be allowed to just vent on Lucas on these boards.

LOL, you want in on this dress action?

Heaven forbid anyone venting be questioned because so often, people's venting on this board is suppressed and quashed due to all the lucas apologists crawling all over this board. It's like you're lucky to vent freely without some ass breathing down your neck about it!! Why the other day I went through about 20 posts calling Lucas a dead-dog rapist and on the 21st someone said I went overboard!!! What the hell is that? After ONLY 20 posts? That's CRAZY!! What kind of safe haven for free opinion IS this place?!?!?!

X1's doesn't mind it, and I don't mind it when he prods me right back. It's all gravy, man. I know you're hanging overhead grinning like the top half of a guillotine to drop on my head every five minutes. It's okay.

Ironically, that's the mindset I have of you scouring this forum for posts to jump on.

Of course you do. Lucky for me, no one else here shares that mindset

Which, by the way, I'm grateful for. Thanks guys. Even though we disagree on a lot, we don't get pissy with each other, and that's cool.

Eh, I'd keep the old lightsabers and matte lines, or I wouldn't really consider it the original original trilogy. I love to see through the frame of my cockpit, I don't know about you!

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

That's what I thought the SE was going to be in the first place! I have to go with Gaffer on this one.

Yep, I've said it maybe 2, 3 times, but Bizzy will always be that angry badger I knew from Tatooine.

Yeah ... Just clean up the film, scan it, hire the guy from starwarslegacy.com to color correct it, encode a nice 16:9 MPEG-2 out of it with the original sound mixes, and slap it on a DVD. Most of this work was probably done for the 1997 and 2004 releases. They can get a fan-made DVD cover set from a torrent site, then hire a child or trained monkey to oversee the actual encoding of the video. This thing could be on store shelves by New Year's.

With regard to Lucas, I think he doesn't care about the "fanbase." The base of Star Wars -- The Movies' popularity is not the fans, but the populace at large. If half the hardcore Star Wars fanbase gave up on Star Wars completely, they might have to scale back the publication of reference books and whatnot (as Pocket Books did to Star Trek during the Trekkie Diaspora in the late 90s), but movie sales would not be terribly affected.
