Not sure about the best way , but I have tinkered around a bit using an HDMI to RCA converter running from my laptop to the input of my VCR . VLC media player has several options to play around with the aspect ratio . Takes some playing around with . I have had better results doing things like using full screen DVDs through a dvd recorder that can bypass copy protection .
