It's official, George is really losing it (claims more changes to the OT to come...)

I’m not sure if anyone has posted a topic on this matter before, but …

For those of you who don’t have Episode III on DVD or haven’t noticed this peace of information on the extra’s DVD. There’s going to be yet another edit of the Original Trilogy. I heard George Lucas say it on a short ‘Darth Vader’ documentary on the 2nd disc of the Episode III DVD. He clearly states that new things will be added to Episodes IV, V and IV, things that we haven’t seen before.
You don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s a screen shot of the documentary (with English subtitles turned on so you can read what he’s saying):

So, his ‘final’ version of the Original Trilogy (the one that was released on DVD almost a year ago), the movies as he originally envisioned them to be but couldn’t make back then due to money, time and technology constrains, were actually … well … NOT what he claimed them to be when they were released. He told us the same lie with the 1997 Special Editions and now it seems there will be another ‘final’ version.

To George I’d have to say: “Stop it right there, mister Lucas!”
Give the loyal fans what they’ve been asking for: an un-edited version of the Original Trilogy.
After that you can mess up the movies as much as you like and no one will blame you for it (and just few fans will buy them, and that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it).

I beleive in that instance he was referring to the PT giving a new perspecitve to the OT, not additional changes (thought those are sure to come).

Yeah, he meant that seeing the PT will allow you to see the OT in a new light, which are his intentions. He hasn't lost it. But, there will no doubt be more changes.

The only changes that I want made are to remove all Special Edition effects and scenes except:

Cleaned up mattes.

Improved saber effects/ laser blasts.

McDermid RE-SHOOTING his scene in ESB with the original dialogue.

This may seems strange but I'd keep in eyebrowless-Anakin.

well yeah i beleive he might thave been refering to the 2007 ultimate editions, we have known about these for a long long time since b4 ep 3 even came out, his plan is the fix errors and continuty problems in both the PT and the OT and to release a final fully finished version of all 6 films in 1 box set, its my personal belief that he will release the OT shortly after.

Didn't he mean, 4, 5 and 6, as to someone watching the PTs first, and then the OTs? Because, damn it, what else there is to alter?!

If there are plot holes or continuity problems in the OT, the PT and between both trilogies, there is only one person to blame for this. The original creator of the Star Wars universe and writer of these stories.

He claims to have had the whole story in place before punching out the details for his first Star Wars movie (now known as Episode IV) because there was not enough money to do the whole story. But something went wrong while punching out the details for Episodes I to III, creating several plot holes as he went along. For some he created in Episodes I and II he promised he would resolve them in Epsiode III, but didn't deliver. I doubt he'll be able to connect the dots story wise through both trologies when he produces is new 'final' version (you know, the one he envisioned in the first place, but wasn't able to make due to <excuse1>, <lame excuse2>, etc.). Only time will tell...

Change them all you want, George.....cuz I ain't buying it. Even if the OOT is included....I would buy it...keep the OOT disks and shitcan the rest. You're a lunatic, George. Plain and simple.

The problem with GL is that he is NOT Tolkien, people. Suddenly he had this huge burden of creating a HUGE intergalactical saga, filled with a complex timeline composed of an official film canon and several expanded universe facts, so huge not even the hugest fan knows it entirely. It's like asking Steven Spielberg to write a fantasy saga, he'll come up with crap too, he won't be able to handle all the facts. belivew it or not, people, GL is not a geek who reads and watches sci-fi all the time and knows how to handle an intergalactical saga in the way a fan would really appreciate, he can't do this, he's a 60+ year old director, did the best he can, and he failed. It would be like asking for Hitchcock to write and direct a 6 episode complex fantasy saga, he wouldn't be able to handle it, it is not what he did best. It's like asking your grandmother to write sci-fi, she would try, but it would be a crappy childlike story filled with cliche and plot holes. See what I mean now?

Sorry, but I believe in an artist's rights. I released the original versions on laserdisc and VHS a few years back. The DVDs out now are the films the way I wanted them to be.

That is the case most likely.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

I've always felt the prequels should of been what "Lord of the Rings" is. What made them great was story, there are other sides to making a film great, but the foundation was Tolkien's tale of adventure, and his characters.

George Lucas had how long to work on the prequels, to correct plot holes, bring in other writers to add to his ideas ... or come up with new ones, work on dialouge and interaction. I don't know, sometimes I just feel like the effort wasn't all there to really bang out the best possible story/screenplay. Especially if only George Lucas was working on the meat and potatoes of it all, which I believe is story. Two heads is better than one, and then some, by throwing out ideas and keeping/eliminating the things that do and don't work.

Call me crazy ... or naive, because I'm not in the know when it comes how things work in the film industry. But when did Lucas actually start to really work on the screenplay and story side of his prequels? A year or two before the release of PT (I seriously don't know)?

*edit*

By the way, what did you use to take that screenshot? I only use PowerDVD, but it doesn't look as clear, or as sharp.

He wrote the VERY basic storyline in 1973. He officially began working on the scripts, however, on November 1, 1994.

i really think he started the backstory nov 1 1994. i think he wrote notes about things that mightve been used in the PT earlier but i truly believe he didnt come up with the whole prequel storyline as we know it till late '94. and even then you know he hadnt figured boba fett into it till he started writing ep2 in '99. i truly believe he has been making it up as he goes ever since jedi

Yeah, that's what I meant by VERY basic.

His 94' scripts were where most of the PT story was created, based on those notes from 73'.

I'd love to read this 1994 backstory. Must be absolutely hilarious.

Only he has it. It's in the archives, I suppose. That is, unless they release "The Prequels: The Annotated Screenplays."
