The X9/X0 make laserdiscs look much better, but regardless you're still taking an analog source and displaying on a large digital display. The quality of the TV's deinterlacer, zoom (or aspect ratio) modes, possibly comb filter, all come into play. The quality of the LD itself is the biggest factor. I use my X9 through an Iscan HD+ and while some lasers look great, others are just okay, even with the Iscan HD+. A laserdisc is not ever, unless it's MUSE, going to look as good as a good anamphoric dvd on a digital display. Some of the best looking to me are Star Wars Episode I, Blade, and Saving Private Ryan. The Faces and definitive look much better but are still not great due to the low quality of the transfer.

OK i saw the problem you spoke of,but if you listen something was going on with the tape so the JVC SVHS vcr player was correcting,i will try it again but if there is a problem there on the original tape, the vcr will make the corrections again,i will see what happens
can you tell me if it does this on the other 2 films?

thanks, but i really dont know how to get around this if there is a problem on the tape, like i said i will try again and see what happens.
maybe use a cheap vcr that doesnt auto correct like this expensive one does

I have run in to this problem before. On my JVC HR-S3901U SVHS VCR, I was able to fix it by turning the SUPERIMPOSE option to OFF in MAIN MENU -> FUNCTION -> SUPERIMPOSE -> OFF. This way, even if the video calibration kicks in, it won't put the warning in the video stream. Hopefully, there's something similar in your JVC, DJ.

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

I was just about to post the same thing! I had a JVC that did this also. In the setup menu there should definitely be a way to set it to not display this every time it "corrects" the picture.

Hadn't checked them yet...I believe you could tape the affected part again & then use Womble or somesuch to replace the bad footage with the good.

Maybe? I'm just thinking out loud really..

The Faces LaserDisc and VHS was the last time the OT was released prior to the SE being released.

Have a look at a website I am working on attempting to explain the LaserDisc (and eventually VHS) sources used in the various Star Wars transfers.

The DavisDVD site also helps explain the various releases too.

That one confused me for a while along with many of the terms used around here which is why I did the research for the website.

Ha, Ha. My crazy English humour!!!!!!!!!!

On a more serious note, by the time that we have collectively finished, there will not be many different versions of the trilogy that have not been captured. My 23 disc set of raw captures should complement your work rather well........
