Unfortunately not. I didn’t exactly scan the film. I took a french scan that was in the public domain and then I synced the english audio from the newer copies. This was the only reason I could make this scan a free for all. If I had to buy a print and scan it, it would have cost me a lot of money, and then people would have to pay to watch mine. My mission was to make the original (emphasis on original) Jurassic Park available to the entire world, and not just the few that are interested in this project. As John Hammond once said: “This park isn’t only for the super rich. Everybody in the world has the right to see these animals.”

I highly recommend reading the book. It’s funny, but John Hammond is the opposite and basically tells everyone that poor people can go to hell. Super quick read, definitely worth the time if you’re a fan of the film!

There is no way whatever the French scan of the film is is in public domain. If your plan is still to post this whole film directly on Youtube I can’t see it working. (On a side note, some people pledge $3-$5 for scan projects so it’s not really like they are locked in to the super rich only. That said I get the idea of wanting everyone to see a scan, but I don’t think you can really do that necessarily.)

Okay, sorry. I didn’t exactly have this information. But I just have a question. If I create a Youtube playlist and I put little cutscenes in the correct order so that they form an entire movie, would it be okay to put it on youtube?

If I didn’t explain myself correctly, this is what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJmqgRicoDU&list=PLab2BAq3q3ukbYOuNmRC9a87NFyRnLjhD&index=1

Already read it. Very good book.

So what you’re doing is taking a 35mm scan you found with French audio, synced some English audio to it, and uploading it to Youtube, cut into 3 minute chunks?

Pretty much. But it will be in a playlist, so all the videos play one after the other, forming the entire movie.

I didn’t really mean the super rich. I just wanted to quote John Hammond. What I actually meant is that this film scan is available for anyone.

Hi, everyone. Sorry that I haven’t sent any progress so far. I just wanted to tell everybody that the video editing is coming on. A lot of progress has been made. There are sadly one or two bugs. They include a few still frames. They’re only noticeable once or twice during the film, but they’re there. Just wanted to update you guys. If this is a huge dealbreaker, let me know, I can get the short clip on YouTube and just paste them into the film. When I post the first clip on YouTube, I’ll send the link, and you can comment on this page about the still frames. It should be done any day now. Goodbye, be back with more info soon.

I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but you don’t have a French scan. What you have is this scan with the English audio removed and the French audio synced by someone and uploaded somewhere. I’d have to check how the scan was paid for, but the guy that loaned the print for the scan doesn’t mind if you have a copy so if you want the original Prores just say and we may be able to give it to you.

That said, the colours are not right at all because the scanner used had limited dynamic range. No amount of colour correction will make it as good as the newer scans that are currently being done or worked on. It’s not actually a 4K scan either, it’s Bayer UHD … which is fine for 1080p finishing, but there’s a lot of detail lost. Don’t get me wrong, for 2015 the quality was acceptable.

Anyway, I remember someone uploading the scan somewhere with French audio synced a few years ago (a French blog I think), so I’m 99% sure that’s what you have.

I am very sorry. I really did not know that this was Team Negative One’s scan with french audio synced. I found it floating around on archive. I was under the impression that everything on archive was in the public domain. It was under the title “coupon day”. They took it off archive for some reason. If I am doing copyright infringement, please tell me, because I was not aware that this was TN1’s. As I said, it really was a misunderstanding if I took TN1’s scan. I’ve never seen it. If it is TN1’s scan, I will cancel the project. I can look at a few photos from TN1’s scan just so to be sure. Maybe they took it off of archive because it was TN1’s scan. Again, if that’s the case, I’ll cancel this project immediately.

Please check your DM because I sent you the audio for that scan. It’s the speech bubble at the top of the page next to your avatar image.

It is not Team Negative One’s scan. They were given it to work on but they never made the release from which you got it. I won’t go into the internal details, but it was an English language print and the restored scan you have had both optical audio and cinema DTS synced to it already in English. Somebody removed it and uploaded it with foreign audio. I’ve sent you a link to the audio so you can download it and sync it.

That said, the scan is old. It was done in 2014. The newer scans will blow that one out of the water in terms of quality.

Thank you so much! This really is an easier way to make the scan. You have helped me a lot, because the audio that I was using wasn’t the best (but still watchable). Thank you for your help, you are a really nice guy.

PS. I cant wait to hear the new audio. Sounds exciting!

Maybe they took it off of archive because it was TN1’s scan.

Maybe it was taken down from archive by the actual copyright holder, Universal Pictures??

The existing audio is perfectly fine, one is captured optically and sounds great the other is Cinema DTS so there’s no loss in quality from the DTS CD to what I gave you.

The picture quality on the other hand… the new scans are a lot higher spec.
