Its not uncommon for artists of all types to want to distance themselves from
their earlier material. Happens with bands as well.

Well the difference is that Eddie holds the rights to Delirious and not the other films he did, so if he wants to keep it from being released on DVD then unfortunately that's his choice. I think the main reason is because of the very non-politically correct stuff in it, specifically the jokes about gays and AIDs as I recall (been 2 yrs since I last saw it). It's a damn shame that political correctness has influenced Eddie Murphy himself. I think the last edgy movie he did was Metro or Distinguished Gentleman, back in the mid 90s. After that it was all the damn kiddy movies like Dr. Doolittle, Nutty Professor, Daddy Day Care, etc. Sigh...
