  • 1080p version: available
  • 1080p recolor: available
  • 4K recolor: available
  • Subtitles: available

Changes from V3

  • For all downloads 5.1 Surround sound added

  • Smaller file size
  • Updated intro helmet sequence
  • Updated look to introduction text
    • Centred Text
    • Decreased size of Text
  • Rewrote introduction text

  • Added episode title card
  • Smoothed musical transition between intro sequence and episode beginning
  • Further polish added to all cut transitions
  • reinstated a few lines of Hera agreeing with Ezra’s idea to go with the Purrgil. Not sure why I cut it but it feels needed given how much resentment she shows towards the creatures.
  • cut “the Purrgil and the gas are connected”… yes Ezra, that’s what all those visual shots were conveying so there’s no need for you to say it here. He also says this line again later, so no need to double up.
  • cut “I can’t believe we’re going to lose to this guy.”, undermines his threat and by extensions the whole Ghost crew. I think the episode is better served without it.
  • Updated the look of the end credit ‘concept art’
    • Added a cracked paint effect to all concept art
    • Added a canvas texture to all concept art
  • Updated subtitles
    • Change >> to character names
    • Resynced subtitles
    • Minor fixes to dialogue
    • New subtitles added to cover added scenes

For recolors only:

  • Fixed colors for introduction sequence
  • Fixed colors of end credit sequence

Viewing Notes

Episode is essential viewing as it has relevance to the finale of the show. And some added context to the Ahsoka series.

Nice, I don’t even know why but I really really like this purrgil episode!

Say, are you planning any changes to the upcoming Twilight of the Apprentice finale? It’s by far the best arc we ever got in Rebels!

I find it pretty enjoyable aswell!

I’ll be de-aging Vader as in line with his other apparences in this edit now.

I’ll be polishing up my existing visual edits, the added sparks from the old Saber and Darth Vaders blue to sith eye.

Polish for the transitions and audio. This likely includes the kreia holocron (as the ai to do so is better now and I’ll be going into 5.1 instead of stereo)

I’m not sure that I’ll need to change anything else! But I’m always open to cool ideas and suggestions!

RELEASED S02E08 - Rebels of Ryloth V4

  • Further polish added to all cut transitions
  • reinstated some of the planning scene previously cut because Hera mentions the briefing I think it’s important we se some of it.
    • I don’t like when Cham talks in this meeting because he makes it too obvious he will betray Hera later on. I think it improves the episode to keep this better hidden. It also makes his character more believable when he changes back to helping Hera, as it doesn’t seem like he’s always been planning to betray her. (Bc we don’t see that).
  • cut “we were always stronger together”, I think a quieter moment where Hera and Cham share a look with no words is much nicer.
  • reinstated “for you my people” not sure why I ever cut this.
  • Updated the look of the end credit ‘concept art’
    • Added a cracked paint effect to all concept art
    • Added a canvas texture to all concept art

Viewing Notes

Episode could be skipped but provides context as to how the Rebels end up surviving in space and introduces characters relevant to Hera.

I’m looking for feedback before I rerelease my the first episode (again).

While chatting with TheDimitrios about his Rebels edit (I recommend checking his progress out and providing feedback!), he gave me the idea of making the cloud vortex as seen in Solo visible in Kessel’s orbit. It’s a small few second shot but I thought the idea was awesome so have done a mockup.

Along with that I’ve recolored the planet slightly to match how it looks in Solo and how we see it in the episode.

Here’s what it looks like without motion.

Here’s what the original shot looks like.

What do you think of this inclusion? Should I keep it or should I scrap it?

The next release of this episode should fix that awkward transition at the beginning with the grand inquisitor (I hope).

The cloud vortex and recolor sound like a great idea, but I think a side-by-side comparison is the best way to know for sure.

Keep up the good work.

You’re absolutely right! I’ll fix up the previous post with a comparison shot.

The comparison makes it crystal clear. The shot with the vortex is much more visually pleasing.

Absolutely keep the new visuals! The more continuity the better!

I’m currently working on S02E10 Shroud of Darkness.

I’m recoloring and adjusting the sequences inside the Lothal Temple (to better match the changes I made in season 1).

https://youtu.be/YTyfQrPMba4

This is what I’ve come up with so far, I’d love to get some feedback or suggestions 😃

So far I’ve

  • desaturated and recolored the scenes between Kanan and the Inquisitor. Given how bright the light Kanan walks into is, it felt odd the original scene was saturated like every other scene… it’d surely be washed out from the light? That’s my justification anyway.
  • redid the lightsabers. This combined with the recolor makes it much easier to track them through the scenes now, they got lost in the light of the original.
  • cut Kanan saying “a temple guard” as it’s just exposition for the audience that feels clunky.
  • cut Jedi temple guard posing for the camera ready to strike, he had already made his intentions to attack clear enough.
  • cut there initial fight a touch for pacing as there is no need for it to start up now then cut away to another scene.

Checking out your ep 1 update, that wipe works SO much better than the fade. Very nice 😎. I think the music transition there is still off, though. The inquisitor scene’s music lasts for just a little bit too long before fading out. What I’ve done before for wipe transitions is to either have the music fade right when the scene transitions (as long as it doesn’t cut off any melody), or accompany the transition with a subtle sfx.

I’ve played with the transition of the music and I’ve tried that before 😂 because the cut happens right as music swells and there’s no way to avoid this, it sounds much worse to fade it out or cut it off mid crescendo. As it stands the audio from the other scene comes in as the wipe begins, I let the crescendo hit it’s peak and then fade it out. It’s the best solution I can think of to cut these scenes together… Maybe I need to learn how to rescore a scene just for this transition 😂😂😂😂

I think this single scene is being more troublesome than the entire rest of the project combined lmao

Author
Time

Atleast were halfway there 😂 it now visually works! Now, it’s just getting the audio to comply.

Author

Okay, I think I’ve finally cracked it. (But we’ll see what you all think first)

https://youtu.be/Asmop_ATmEY

I’ve adjusted the wipe (very slightly) and I’ve smoothed the audio by adding a big drop off in volume once the scene has changed over, leaving quiet audio to slowly fade out to finish the musical phrase.

I’m hoping this resolves the issues of A) The music being too loud, B) The music being too long into the next scene, and, C) Allowing the musical phrase to complete. Because It checks all these boxes I think I’ve got it sorted, but before I release another version of the episode. I’ll check with everyone to make sure it’s fixed!

Time

IMHO it’s… absolutely fine. I mean, bearing in mind that it’s always gonna be a rough cut, I don’t think it can get much better than this.
