Okay, for my sources, the right speaker comes out of the left surround sound speaker and vice versa. (Likely a mistake made by me during the ripping process) Which explains the sound being heavier on the left.

This was incorrect… No issues with my source as far as I can tell… but that being said,

this audio business is being an absolute nightmare for me because when I check it on my TV with a 5.1 surround sound setup, everything is coming through the correct channels (telling me everything is indeed fine with the audio) but when I listen to the edit via VLC on my PC it’s left leaning… (That being said, it also sounds like my headset is left leaning also… so it’s been difficult for me to judge if I’m achieving anything).

I’ve read on Reddit that this could be a problem with VLC for 5.1 media… Kestrel how are you watching my edit? And does anyone else have this problem?

I do not have a 5.1 setup and use VLC to play it and do not encounter any issues with this cut being left leaning.

Do you use the BluRays as a source?

This was from streaming it on gdrive and then playing it through davinci, as well. Playing it on VLC actually seems to be OK 🤷‍♂️. So if no one else is having issues with it and it’s too much of a headache to figure out, then I wouldn’t worry too much more about it.

Yes the BluRays are my source 😃

I could export a 5.1 clip from my BluRay Rips and send it to Kestrel to check if that produces the same problem.

Downloads

Changes from V4

  • Updated look to introduction text
    • Centred Text
    • Decreased size of Text
  • Rewrote introduction text
  • Replaced old intro with new one
  • Fifth Brother fight scene with Zeb and Sabine extended to reinclude Zeb finding the medical supplies.
    • Cut Zeb looking into the entry way only to be hiding a few shots later after the ad break
    • Cut the ad fade to black
    • Cut Zeb’s line saying “Oh, now I found the supplies”, given the purpose of the mission and the logo on the box, I think it is visually conveyed enough without it being explicitly said. It’s also said later in the episode by Ezra anyway so no need to double up.
  • Cut Ezra saying “Oh” clearing his throat then Sabine saying “what?” when they notice Zeb on the roof… it was a bit too ridiculous to think the Inquisitors didn’t notice this.
    • Further trimmed this sequence to make it flow better with the line removals.
  • Updated the look of the end credit ‘concept art’
    • Added a cracked paint effect to all concept art

RELEASED S02E05 - Return to Lothal V4

Downloads

  • 1080p version: available
  • 1080p recolor: available
  • 4K recolor: available
  • Subtitles: available

Changes from V3

  • For all downloads 5.1 Surround sound added
  • Slight improvement to visual quality
  • Smaller file size
  • Updated intro helmet sequence
  • Updated look to introduction text
    • Centred Text
    • Decreased size of Text
  • Rewrote introduction text
  • Replaced old intro with new one
  • Added episode title card
  • Smoothed musical transition between intro sequence and episode beginning
  • Further polish added to all cut transitions
  • Reinstated Leia’s original introduction (as recommended)
    • cut Hera and Kanan talking about the three cruisers back and forth (this is all communicated visually with Leia’s incoming ships, so no need to have it said twice then shown.)
    • “Launch fighters to intercept” cut
    • cut shot of TIE fighers deploying
    • “nor do you have a landing permit” cut as its completely undermined in the next line.
    • “well there’s no turning back now” cut, it made no sense… you’re already in a restricted sector there already was no turning back!
  • Reinstated the conversation with Leia Ezra and Kanan on the shuttle (as recommended).
    • Cut Kanan immediately calling the bad plan a good one a few seconds after calling it bad…
  • Restored Kanan asking Leia to give Ezra a pep talk and the pep talk (as recommended).
    • cut “I know who you are, you’re Ezra Bridger” such an awkward line with an awkward delivery, one of the main reasons this was originally completely cut.
    • reluctantly cut Leia saying she heard Ezra’s transmission. It was nice but broke the flow after cutting the awkward lines
  • restored planning to get the ships (as it contains vital information as to why they can’t blow up the gravity locks, and has some good background info of Imperial prisons that’s mirrored nicely with Andor)
    • cut Zeb saying two walkers are a problem
    • cut the crew worrying about the defenses (we got the point from Sabine’s first line)
    • cut Leia trying to give the whole crew a pep talk (not sure why they all needed it as well all of a sudden?)
  • Updated the look of the end credit ‘concept art’
    • Added a cracked paint effect to all concept art
    • Added a canvas texture to all concept art
  • Updated subtitles
    • Change >> to character names

Viewing Notes

Episode is essential viewing as it sets up a recurring main character for later seasons and continues the plot lines with Lothal and Ezra’s parents.

S03x03 - Maul

I LOVED how you merged those three eps together, the story does flow quite nicely as one piece!

  • The two transitions are a little rough however, specially from the first to the second episode. Maybe some random scene from a cut episode (just them flying in space for about five seconds) could help with a little breath.

  • 28:30-28:50 - could maybe cut this and improve the pace? They JUST told they were tracking and going to follow Ezra anyway, don’t need two scenes in a row stating the same point.

  • 43:44. Cut this “Maul’s back” since the story is in pretty much one go now?

  • 44:30. Cut the “I wanna go to Tatooine” line? Makes no sense, how does Ezra all of a sudden even know about Tatooine? I know he just goes there in the next scene anyway, but that we can infer that was just the following of Maul’s voice/presence.

  • Also, the third part could REALLY be trimmed down considerably, there’s just so much uninteresting filler in here,
the whole ezra+chopper shenanigans feels kind of out of place for such an important lore episode.

  • And maybe cut Ezra getting back to his friends? The end here is beyond rushed, Kanan doesn’t even ask about Obi-wan, what the hell. So just leaving it out could actually be a better narrative, you know, leaving to the viewers how the characters debated what happened down there.

Thanks as always for the feedback! I’ve saved it and tucked it away for when I get back to this episode! 😃

I felt the benefit to having it all as one episode allowed for season 3 to focus more on Thrawn (rather then having split Villains), allows for easy episode selection for those only interested in Mauls plotline, and as you mentioned, flows well enough as one story!

I had trouble with 5.1 audio in Premiere Pro when I was learning to edit. I found this video (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb4HwSUrAjw) very helpful. If you’re editing 5.1 audio with headphones on like me, I’d suggest regularly isolating each channel to check that every audio transition sounds smooth for each separate channel.
This is pretty big for a first project, but I think you’re doing great!

Thanks for the tip! I’ve seen some of this video but maybe I should sit down and watch it all!

I’ve been isolating each channel to blend them for transitions or make changes to audio as I’ve been upgrading the series to V4. 😃

S03xE04 - Pirates of the Storm

This one was… quite pointless and unnecessary, honestly. Just a generic filler adventure. Curious as to why you left it in the project? Well, I guess if you count a “Hondo” arc as part of the show lore, it’s kind of important (but since I REALLY don’t like Hondo Ohnaka in Rebels, it was just not for me). Edit wise, just the 13:49 cut was quite jarring.

Yes this episode is quite pointless. I decided to keep the Hondo episodes (as he constantly appears in plot related events) and move this episode here to help balance the season. After a big episode like Maul it gives a break in terms of viewing. But Hondo does appear again in the opening of this season… So maybe I can remove it. We’ll see!

No need for feedback on jarring cuts or transitions. I’ll fix all of that as I go through into V4.

Unfortunately you’re getting to the episodes I haven’t polished for a long while now! The feedback I’m focus on for them is what further to cut (as you mentioned, maybe the whole episode), what more to include (I could replace this with the episode with another) and things like that 😃

Thanks as always for your feedback!!!

RELEASED S02E06 - The Protectors V4

  • Cut Sabine saying “Hera, what do we do?” and polished this transition into Hera immediately taking action (the line was only here to reestablish what’s happening after an ad break so no longer needed here)
  • Cut Sabine bashing her head while hiding as it felt a bit too comical. The added bonus of cutting this is that it also ads more credibility both to the Protectors finding her AND explains why they give up looking when they see nothing.
  • Cut “Kanan, you need to stop talking now.” Kanan was done talking and Sabine had made her decision, it was unneeded dialogue.
  • Updated the look of the end credit ‘concept art’
    • Added a cracked paint effect to all concept art
    • Added a canvas texture to all concept art

Viewing Notes

Episode is essential viewing as it sets up the Mandalorian plotline that’s further explored in Season 3 and introduces the viewer to Fenn Rau.
