i will go through these new versions as they come out. 😃

s01e01:
The first scene with the Inquisitor and Vader needs a better transition. The close up shot of the inquisitor builds up to his eyes being revealed, but because of the very sudden fade out that reveal does not have enough room to breath. I would either give they “eye reveal” a bit more time to sink in or just show him from the back, not cutting to the close up of the face at all. (which would make the last scene the first time we see his face, which would be kinda neat)

The scene with Ezra returning the lightsaber and joining the crew also needs a bit more room to breath before it cuts away.

Last small thing: around 12:00 there is an establishing shot of the full city that goes by way too fast. I would either take that out or prolong it.

All in all, a very good job, the rest flowed wonderfully. 😃

I’ve played with this transition a lot. I found when we jump from the back of the inquisitor to Ezra it feels a bit jarring and the building music doesn’t have a chance to resolve.

I don’t think it’s perfect but the transition is the length of the original show and the same (just to a different scene).

I might play around with it some more but from what Ive experimented with I think I’ve already got the best transition (without having to rescore anything).

The scene with Ezra returning the lightsaber and joining the crew also needs a bit more room to breath before it cuts away.

I’d love to get some suggestions for this as I don’t think I’ve cut anything around this part so I’m not sure what I could use to extend this moment. I do agree though!

I’ll check that out and see what I can do. 😃

Thanks for all your input! It’s much appreciated! 😃

With the Inquisitor transition it might help to keep the dramatic music cue just a tad longer into the next scene?

But it speaks to the quality of your edit that the stuff that stands out is baggage from the original show. 😉

s01e02:
Knowing the original episodes, this is probably as good as it gets. One thing I liked: Watching it directly after e01 it is kinda implied that the “we are even” moment at the end references Zeb pushing Ezra back in ep01 leading to his capture. That is actually quite elegant.

Only little downside on this one: There is not enough time to read the intro texts.

s01e03 was very well rounded

s01e04 had a black frame popping up around 1:20 and when they are running from the parade and zeb says “welcome back kid”, it is pretty obvious that they are running around some corners, so the next shot of zeb shooting the Inquisitor does not really fit. Maybe there is a way to rearrange this in some way?

Other than that, it flowed super nice. 😃

Looks like this was a rending error for the 1080p recolor only, so I’ll fix that up soon! Good spotting!

I’ve watched this sequence again and feel it works just fine. Sabine and Zeb are hidden away from the crowd to throw the fireworks while Kanan and Ezra are at the heart of the parade. They then all run around corners, taking the back route I’d assume, to reconvene in the open. Zeb then tries to take a shot and Kanan redirects it to the Grand Inquisitor.

I could cut the moment entirely… however I like the moment of brutality it gives to Zeb, he’s a solider willing to try take out the enemy (especially given that I’ve cut Kallus saying he gave the order to kill the Lasat’s giving Zeb less motivation to target him directly).

As always thanks for the Feedback! It’s always helpful!

Alright! Season 1 has been repolished and updated with the new intro! I don’t think I’ll be back to edit more of it unless there is specific feedback that I’m acting on. Back into Season 2 I go! (Again)

Right off the bat in ep 1, a couple things:
-The audio seems to be favoring the left side. This has happened to me when the audio layout is wrong in my timeline (5.1 and 5.1F have different layouts). That would be my suspicion.
-The transition at the beginning from the inquisitor to Ezra doesn’t work at all. It looks like a cross-fade and a hard cut put together and the music stops too abruptly.

The rest of it seems really good! I like the color grade you did. That and all the cuts you made make it feel a lot less kiddy.

I’ve been playing around with the idea to use AI to change Sam Witwer’s appearance as the Emperor to match Ian MacDiarmid’s (As Ian comes back in Season 4 for the role, it feels odd to have them both voice him! Even though I love Sam’s performance)

https://youtu.be/FEggwBqXDPc

I’d love to hear feedback on this scene 😄

It makes sense to me to use Ian’s actual performance of this scene rather then an AI model, so that’s what I’ll do! 😃

Using Ian’s actual voice is the way to go versus the robotic AI. Also, the change to Vader’s voice does somewhat make him sound like a younger Jones as well even if it still a bit off. Then again, I believe the closest you will ever get to the Vader voice from a New Hope is using the voice actor Ryan Golden who does an excellent impression. This is not something that really should be expected as your edit of the voice is more than passable.

P.S. It is much appreciated that you are constantly improving upon your edit of Rebels.

On another matter, in your Tales of the Rebels episode about Caleb, the Bad Batch portion works out really well. However, I personally did not find the comic book story with the smuggler compelling. I think it might be best to just go with the name change being done to hide his identity to hide from Order 66. I know that would make the episode way too short so it could just be left as is for those who want that story.

Do you have any tips on how to resolve this? I’ve been teaching myself this editing business from the group up with this edit hahaha. In Premiere Pro’s timeline my audio is split into 3 stereo tracks (due to previous mistakes)… so it definitely could be a mistake there… or is it something to do with how I render the files?

The transition itself is exactly what the show does, I’ve simply moved it to another scene. I agree the music stops a bit abruptly but without a rescore I’m not sure there is much I can do to resolve that… I might come back and look into it again after I’ve given the other seasons some more polish.

I’ve just checked my source files and the left side favouring seems to be present here as well, so now, I’m not sure if this is a problem I’ve created. Do you have any tips on how to resolve it though? 😃 (I’ll be doing some research but I’m not sure how successful I’ll be.

So, on my headphones the sound favours the left. Likely because the middle speaker is coming through the left ear and on my actual 5.1 surround sound setup the sound is lot favouring the left and is balanced quite well. Would love to hear more from you in regards to this Kestrel 😃

I agree. It does still sound a bit off but hey! I reckon it’s closer and we get to keep James Earl Jones’ performance! 😄

P.S. It is much appreciated that you are constantly improving upon your edit of Rebels.

And I’ll keep going with it until the edit is as good as I can make it! 😄

I’ll keep this in mind when I go back and polish Tales of the Rebels (Although, this is the lowest on my priorities hahaha)

Thanks for the feedback! 😄

Oh, I am also self taught 😅. It was an issue I encountered when working in Davinci Resolve so I’m not sure how much I can help with Premiere. Here’s something I just found while trying to make sense of things:

https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=141592

In, Davinci, each audio track has a type drop-down where you can select 2.0, 5.1, etc, and one of the options is 5.1F because sometimes the channel layouts for surround sound differ. I think the default 5.1 is Left, Right, Center, Sub, Left rear, Right rear. But it turns out different codecs use different layouts.

So I guess I would start by seeing if Premiere has something equivalent to change your audio track type. And if not, then check your source’s audio codec and make sure your output matches. Hope that helps!

The transition itself is exactly what the show does, I’ve simply moved it to another scene. I agree the music stops a bit abruptly but without a rescore I’m not sure there is much I can do to resolve that… I might come back and look into it again after I’ve given the other seasons some more polish.

Well my advice, if it’s worth anything, would be to prioritize perfecting that as it’s one of your very first opening scenes. That’s like your first impression and I’m not the first person I’ve seen to critique it ITT. I think given the importance of Rebels to the new canon, an edit of your caliber is absolutely essential so I’m really rooting for you!

Okay, for my sources, the right speaker comes out of the left surround sound speaker and vice versa. (Likely a mistake made by me during the ripping process) Which explains the sound being heavier on the left.

Thanks for the advice and noticing this Kestrel! I should be able to fix it for all new releases by editing the channels in premiere pro.

While I’m fixing this I’ll go back to S01E01 and see if I can fix that Inquisitor to Ezra transition. My current thought is to replace the fade (which I don’t think we ever see again in the series…) With either a wipe or a clean cut and I’ll see if there’s much more I can do about that music.
