I thought I'd recommend some X-box games while I'm at it:

- Panzer Dragoon Orta (awesome visuals, best rail-shooter ever)
- Jet Set Radio Future (the gameplay is brilliant and arcadey, the soundtrack is awesome, the style is UBER-COOL)
- Ninja Gaiden (one of the best games I've played IN MY LIFE)
- Jade Empire (one of the most compelling stories in a videogame, almost infinite playability)
- KOTOR & KOTOR II (KOTOR II has infinite replayability, IMHO)
- Lego Star Wars (a good, FUN game - great to play with friends)
- Halo (Halo 2's good if you have X-box live, or if you system-link all the time, otherwise, don't bother)
- Project Gotham Racing 2 (a great game to get into, but only if you like racers)

These games alone make the machine worth buying, even this late in the game, and I'm sure there's many others (like Fable) which are just as good.
MTFBWY. Always.

Still thinking about it. I want to get it right away just because the first versions are the easyest to 'play' with. But damn $400 just for the HD Package, which you have to get when you have a 57" 1080i TV, + tax + another $60 for a game - one girlfriend = hard to tell yet. Monday will be the day that I know.

I'm also still thinking about it. I probably get one for Christmas (Which means just $60 for a game - one girlfriend http://www.lucasforums.com/images/smilies/big_grin.gif)

I just saw the Xbox 360 in action at Best Buy. I saw COD2 and PGR3 running, and...how can I put this...

My fucking face almost melted off.

The next gen really is here. COD2 was...wow.

I wasn't too sure, but now I'm getting one. I'll sell me some sperm if I have too, but I'm getting one.

I ordered one in July but still have to wait, so I'm gonna hit up Walmart on monday night, then sell the other one on ebay or something. I can't wait. I already picked up Perfect Dark and Project Gotham Racing. It's tough seeing them sit there with no system.

Dude, you should see PGR3 in motion. It's beautiful.

Honestly, I was a doubter. I flip-flopped on whether I wanted one or not, I still love my Xbox so I figured I could squeeze some life out of her yet.

After today, no way. You're in for a treat.

Now I just have to figure out what game to get (package deal). I'm torn because I haven't read a review of PD2 yet, but have heard really great things about Kameo. Also, I've heard that the Xbox Live Marketplace is amazing and some of the games for donwload are great.

It's a good time to be a gamer! First thing I'm downloading is Gauntlet - here's my quarters, I call the Dwarf.

Don't know if anyone has seen this and posted it before, but this is really rad.

It's an NES-ified cover project, whereby these dudes cover contemporary music using the NES's audio system.

Check out Zep's Kasmir - it's badass. Coldplay's Yellow is amazing, too...

if your going to get a next gen system i would most definatly wait for the PS3 as the specs on that thing put the Xbox to shame...

but if your interested in games that look as good as the Xbox 360... just get a pc.
COD 2 looks identical on my computer as it does on Xbox 360....

and you wont have to shell out $80 per game either..

That's how much games cost here, due to ultra-taxation and protetionism - sometimes it can get to 100 dollars (and yes, I mean USD). In a shell, the government wants kids to spend money on locally produced agriculture than on loud, confusing, violent overseas videogames. Of course, that also goes for local softwarehouses and game producers and distributors, so if anyone tries to produce videogames here, the government quickly do everything they can to make sure he closes his business. Of course, the government supports piracy and bootlegging, so the videogame industry keeps absolutely away from this country. Our own freaking president was caugth watching a bootleg DVD on his plane by the press some weeks ago.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Before I get a lecture on supply & demand and the genius of marketing, allow me to vent for one minute.

Who does Microsoft presume to be that they can rob people of time? I left my house early to get a 360 on launch day, and was turned away at 8 different stores because they were sold out.

So there's 6 hours of my life given to Xbox 360 which I'll never get back.

Further, retailers are total assholes. I stood in front of a store in the freezing cold for an hour before an employee came out and said, "Despite the fact that we advertised the system, we got one in." So the guy in the front of the line was happy, but the 20 behind were downright mutinous.

It's just not fair - the industry is now being run by pre-orders, and they can't even fill those. So I trek all over the place like a frigging idiot looking for one of these things, in everything from big box retailers to mom & pop stores, and I see boxes of them behind the counter - all for pre-orders.

Lesson learned I guess, but mark my words - this outrage will bite Microsoft in the ass. Poorly played Big M.

Do you think that Sony will do any better with the PS3? I really doubt it. They won't have any on hand for opening day, either.

No way will Sony do any better with the rollout of the PS3. This is the way that VG system rollouts have been happening for years. It guarantees a sellout for the limited number of systems that are in the initial run. It's not as though they can't do it, they just won't. Looks much better to investors to see "sellout" than "overstock" or "demand" as opposed to "supply." Give the hording masses too much and they don't care. Look at SW marketing. Lucas could take a lesson or two from Sony and Microsoft.

I say screw 'em both. I want a Nintendo Revolution. With that and an online account, you will have access to all the original NES games on your Revolution. I know I could do an emulator, but I have yet to find an emulator I like that runs fluidly on Mac.

I dont necessarily disagree with preorders. I actually like them, i like to know that if i really want it I can guarentee that I get one on the first day. But the problem is when they ship the initial shipment and the quantities are well under the demand. It doesnt really make any sense and im not sure who to blame. Its partially Microsofts fault (in this case, or the manufacturer in general) I mean, i realize sometimes they actual underestimate demand, but to tell me microsoft didnt know that demand for the 360 would be this high is utter garbage, they new yet they didnt up their production, or have a later release so they could fill more orders.

but its also the stores fault. I dont know when they find out how many of the item they are getting, but they should either wait to take preorders until they know or at least limit the # of preorders to a smaller number so people dont find out the day of, day before, or even a few weeks before that they wont be getting the item they preordered 3 months ago and its now too late to go preorder one from another store.

either way its pretty shitty, and i dont see what possible benifit the companies can get by making people not able to get their product

MS was trying to dissuade retailers to sell pre-orders.

I spent the night in front of a Target store. I got the 2nd to last ticket for a premium system, I was happy. :-D

I just don't understand it at all. I mean, clearly there were thousands of people willing to spend over $500 for a product, and they only provided enough for hundreds.

Sorry, maybe my math is off, but 1000x$500 seems like a shitload of more money than 100x$500.

I have yet to hear a good reason as to why I had to take the day off of work, spend my morning driving around, wasting gas and time, only to be bummed out for the rest of the day.

I'm not even sure I want one anymore...

This will be the one and only time you hear this from me... Don't Blame Microsoft.

(that hurt to say)

It's been well known that an average of 20 units would be received per store (320,000 units/16,000 retailers). For these stores to have accepted preorders and then allow everyone to camp outside is just ridiculous. They should have allowed a top-out preorder count of 10-12 for release day and the rest be told that they would receive from second or third shipment. Then, after removing the preorder units from your inventory, you print up tickets for the rest that you give to the first however many people you have in line. And you make it clear to everyone else that they may as well go home because they're not getting one.

It's stupidity is what it is. On the part of the stores.

it was bound to happen...
wanna know how many our Future Shop location had?

20!!
thats it!!
we had over 100 preorders and only 20 Xbox's...

but that's beside the fact...
what im still amazed with is how utterly dissapointing the system is...
these next gen consoles are supposed to be some next generation of gaming... and so far i only see the Revolution as having something so drastically different that it can be called next gen...
the Xbox has pretty graphics.. but you can accomplish that with a high end video card right now for your pc...
and we'll have to see if Sony lives up to its promises in 2006 of if they follow the same route as microsoft....

on top of the mediocre graphics you get with the system... the release of launch titles for the system are sub par at best...
Perfect Dark is the only game to recieve an excellent rating out of the bunch... Project Gotham a close second...
and what else do we get?
a bunch of EA sports games which continue the trend of same boring gameplay mechanics with updated rosters...
pass...
