Watched the first 2 hours yesterday up until the Purgill journey starts.
As someone who did not watch the original show, I had no trouble following the story, it all flowed very well so far.
Only 2 things made me flinch for a second:
When Ahsokas ship gets hit, I did not really understand why Huyang got deactivated.
When Ahsoka finishes the fight with the robot/dude with the Inquisitor lightsaber, it seems like she just stands still for quite a while, which seemed odd.
Although I went in blind, i obviously saw Sabine getting stabbed before, it was everywhere… And this version seemed way better. Although it made me stop for a second, not quite knowing what exactly made her pass out, this is by far the better question to ask. Even a slice would be too much considering how fast she is back up on her feet.
Oh, and when Sabine sits down to cut off her hair, I felt like there was a small hiccup in the audio.
Thanks so much for the feedback. It’s so useful getting the perspective of someone that hasn’t watched the series. Its a big relief that the first 2 hours worked for you, because that is where most of the plot trimming was done and where the AI lines were inserted.
The Sabine slice edit was very well done and certainly works the way the series was written with 2 separate scenes in the Medbay, implying that Sabine was there for a period of time. I have cut the two Medbay scenes together, so having a significant lightsaber injury wouldn’t really work. Hence I chose to edit it without a lightsaber injury and implying that she was injured by the force push and is thus able to recover very quickly.
With regards to the other points to make, what’s reassuring here is that I have made numerous scene cuts and altered virtually every scene left in the edit, yet the 3 points that you picked up on were how the original series was presented.
- Huyang gets deactivated because Ashoka’s ship gets hit and he cops it.
- Ahsoka’s extended pose after she kills Marrok is slightly odd, but it can’t be shortened because I want to keep the reveal that he’s “undead” and I can’t cut the Sabine/Shin shot because of how its edited.
- The audio hiccup is the original music transition, it does sound slightly strange and I wonder if this is a music edit rather than Kiner’s original score.
