One big difference is that while a video game can be considered entertainment, or even art, it's art that you control. There are multiple different scenarios even within an original version of a game.

You can't control a film. It's on video or DVD however its presented and that's it. [not getting into fan editing and that phenomenon] An original game might be rereleased, or changed, or updated, which could be either cool or annoying, depending on how much you like the original, or if you have nostalgia for it, or whatever. But there still are differences within said original. It doesn't play out the same way every time, like a movie does, so altering a film is kind of a different thing.
