don't you know that "In thy image" was the name of the script that was eventually made into star trek the motion picture? it was written by alan dean foster, who i credit with authorship of the film. I could care less what paramount says.

Paramount would'nt give william shatner the funding to finish his original vision of star trek V when it was released on dvd. He wanted to replace the totally unconvincing effects with new digital cgi shots of a terrifying vision of the alien/god/the devil creature and complete his shots of the rock men and his dante inferno hell concept, they thought they had journeyed to heaven but only found hell instead. The studios made him change satan into an alien just pretending to be god, weakening the story.

Paramount also would'nt let him have ILM for the movie, who did the effects on all of the biggest star trek top grossers. Star treks II, III IV, and VI, as well as generations, and first contact. THe effects in Insurrection, the final frontier, and nemesis were truly less than spectacular. Star Trek I had great artists doug trumbell from 2001, and fromer ILM'er John Dykstra who worked on the first star wars, that is one reason why people generally mistake the first movie to be a ILM job.

Then again paramount only cares about bleading the fans dry, like getting water out of a stone or blood out of a rock, and cares only about money. They killed star trek with there cost cutting and greed, look at how much they charge for the box sets a hundred dollars or more good grief. and they even cancelled my current favorite show on television enterprise. They clearly missed the boat, but that always happens when banker types and suits don't permit storytellers or artists to realize their vision.

Berman did nothing to lobby them for the fans, too bad gene's dead because he would be livid and outraged.

to end this rant I ask as i did in a previous post "anyone want to send me a copy of this on dvd? pm me" please if anyone would be so kind.

My pleasure. Heck, my job wasn't finished until it was torrented. So thank you for getting it up so quick.

And those covers are awesome! Thanks for sending me a copies. :-D

I like Type IV because it restores gold to the Insignia. I also like Type II for the way the colors work together, and because it makes the Enterprise stand out. Type I keeps that dignified British Grey, but the colour stands out a bit harshly, their way. Type III has an ominous intensity.

I'm glad this thread happened. I wouldn't have expected this stuff would become so hard to find.
It's the only Trek fan-edit I know of, and it's a good one. WNMHGB is the only Trek restoration project I've seen.

{I originally did a goofy-humor version of this post. Parodying myself. Then it occurred to me that online humor is tricky.
You never know how another person might read it. Besides, there was stuff to say.}

Good rant, by the way. I was just getting into it with my own rant, when it said something about 300 Gigabytes storage, or whatever. :-)

Yeah, I knew. DCPhantomEditor must've known that he was stealing the title "In Thy Image" from an entirely different story.
I imagine he did it because he edited it to be his idea of the premier episode of "Phase II". And, well, the title fits.

And did you know that "In Thy Image" was originally a detailed treatment that GR wrote as a proposed episode for "Genesis II", called
"Robot's Return"? I've read it, it's pretty good. It had most of the major elements - and yet a very limited special effects bill.
Dagnabbit. LincolnEnterprises->Roddenberry.com doesn't seem to carry that stuff anymore. I didn't get it all.

Also Roddenberry wrote "The God Thing" as the first proposal for the first movie.
It had some elements in common with Shatner's original concept for ST5 - like the ones the studio hated.
It even had the "God" turning into Satan thing. (Although real information is extremely sparse).

Anyway, "In They Image" was going to be a 2 "hour", 3-Mega-Buck TV movie, before it got turned into TMP. Work was paid for, to continue developing the series, so-as to keep the movie a great-big-scary-secret. (They were negotiaing contracts, and, well, that's Hollywood...).

Foster wrote the episode treatment, Livingston wrote the first draft.
Foster wrote the movie, as far as I can tell, then Livingston & Roddenberry wrote their many versions.
After that, I started to go off on that rant, starting with the history of Studio vs. Roddenberry... other Trekly subjects...

Here's a short one:
How about all those Not-Trek various-movie moments that Roddenberry and/or the actors objected to. Turned out the fans hated 'em too.

On one hand the studio is cool with the fans making derivitive works, and stuff, when non-profit.
On the other hand they seem to think we're the last people they should listen to. And they charge double to quadruple for series-es DVD's.

They slashed the budget of the TOS 3rd-season because Lucy's 2nd husband wanted to make "Love American Style".
(Forcing the invention of the "Filler Episode"). And they cut the first 3 new series-es short at 7 Seasons, tho' every added season means several more profitable years in re-syndication. (Grossly outweighing the budget increases from actor salary increases, and all that stuff).
They encoraged filler episodes for non-Ratings-Sweeps-periods, instead of investing for a humongous return in syndication. (Also, keeping a steady viewership means much bigger ratings in the sweeps). But, to be fair, the whole industry thinks that way, just less drasticly.

And I don't know if they knew they were going to ditch Enterprise before or after they cut the budget & Berman handed the 4th season over to (WooHoo!) Manny Coto, (a TOS fan, and an accomplished producer-writer) but either way, truncating it sucks donk.

Thanks JT for re-posting both of those, although I arrived late to the party and In_Thy_Image had already scrolled off my news provider (but I did get WNMHGB).
Any chance you'd re-re-post In_Thy_Image in a few weeks after it scrolls off Giganews ?

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

If I'm not mistaken, you'd be the Mallwalker who's posted some coolness to Usenet that I've leeched. If that's the case, Thanks dude!

Well, its about 4 or 5 days away from expiring on Giganews and I'm merely almost-positive that I'll be reposting it.
This time, it would be a video_ts, with the torrented-version's dvd_rom folder, thanks to Da Man, Rikter.

(One obstacle is that I've started MySpleening, as if I didn't have enough to suck up bandwidth, and.... but you don't care about that, heh).

And I expect the mighty Segaflip will be posting the ISO at some point, so I still have to coordinate with him.
Yes, I should've taken care of that by now.

Well folks, you've probably noticed by now - but just in case, (relating to the side-topic of this thread) :
------> Blax25 - Star Trek: The Alternate Pilot - “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (Composite & Original Versions). <------

I only had the "DVD-ready mpeg" (which I discovered after upping the VCD). No one replied to my usenet request for the real thing.
So Rikter put it together with Doomsday's VCD-ready that I sent him.

He made a nifty menu, and another pair of wicked-cool covers.
Then 'Spleened it right up there.

Have I mentioned, Rikter, sir, that you are Teh Awesomeness!

(Misspelling of "Teh Awesomeness" is the intellectual (?) property of anime fans, everywhere, of whom I almost qualify. Infringement is intended).

I can't get one stupid post up without editing it... And its 5:24, not 4:24.

Hey, Darth Mallwalker, you got PM. And in case that doesn't work, I'm posting here.

I wanna make sure you know its going up before I post.

I plan to start with "In Thy Image", then get Blax 25 up there.

You're welcome! It's my pleasure.

In Thy Image, video_ts version is finally posting.

Sorry, it took so long, D.M. And took so long again - it was a long day, yesterday, and I crashed out before I saw your reply.

"ST5 Re-Edit - Phase II - In Thy Image - Video_TS - Now with covers!" It's crossposted to a.b.dvd, a.b.multimedia.startrek, a.b.multimedia.scifi, and a.b.superman. (With the latter having the fewest headers to pull, of course).

Folks who's server doesn't carry a.b.dvd will probably not see it. I couldn't figure out a way to keep the software from listing a.b.dvd first.
But that situation shouldn't occur with premium servers. Bad luck for anyone using a low-end server in a multi-server downloader, tho'.

The first 3 groups were the ones it was originally posted to. That gives me the best chance for my requests to be seen. (Requesting the
dvd versions of other Jack Marshall edits - Phantom Remix, WNMHGB, Twilight Zone(?), and Cage(?)).

This posting will include the Dvd-rom folder.

For folks who got the .nrg, originally, I will post a rar of the Dvd-rom folder, separately.

The posting software is estimating less than a day. I may have had it set too low, last time.

Blax25 - WNMHGB, restoration edit, reauthored from the Dvd-ready-mpeg, and a VHS->VCD reference, will be next. ISO, this time.

Note to self: prepare all files beforehand, next time. Yep, I'm still editing 'em...

Correction, I was thinking of a reference to "Planet of the Apes - The Twilight Zone Edit" or "Twilight Zone - the Planet of the Apes edit", or words to that effect, mentioned on the NewVoyages forum. Jack Marshall didn't do that one, apparently. Anyone heard of it?

Yup, just watched it a couple days ago. It can be downloaded here: http://theforbidden-zone.com/media/tzone.shtml

As far as I know, it was only released as a crummy-quality quicktime movie. But something is better than nothing

Wow! He really nailed it! Dayyyum! Yeah, the quality is super-bad...

Thanks for that link, tweaker!

(On Topic).

Well, I flubbed up. It didn't go into a.b.superman. I musta accidentally left it off when I was trying (failed) to get it to list a.b.dvd as the 2nd group. So I attached the nzb to a post in a.b.superman.

For folks who's server does .nzb, but their software doesn't - then BNR2 (freeware) can do it for ya. BNR2

I've just posted the Dvd-rom folder, by itself, for people who snagged the nrg version, earlier. This one made it to a.b.superman.

Try a different web browser, or a different version of your favorite browser.
Myspleen has been quite picky lately about browser versions.

Alternatively, go to your user profile and turn on private messages (PM). They're off by default.
When I see you've got PM's enabled (there'll be a padlock icon beside your forum posts) then I'll send you one.
Or send me one (click the padlock icon beside this post).
