In my country they showed the 2011 BD edition. There was a thread about this back then where people chimed in. That was 3 years ago of course, there would be no reason to show the inferior version again.

Here we had the Return of the Jedi screening. But it wasn’t advertised and it was like only for 4 days. It was the 4K DCP. I didn’t go because i own the damn UHD why would i pay to see what i already own projected in a cineplex? Would have gone if it was the 1997 print or the 1983. We did get Empire here as well years ago again that was the old 2011 master.

We also got two different restored DCPS of Raiders. The old one and the more recent one. The new one is the 4K. And its a different restoration than the Imax version. I assumed it was going to be the old one but someone went and saw it and said it was a brand new version. We do have a small theater that is a two screen that shows 35mm, but the AMC is all digital. They wouldn’t be able to project 35mm if they wanted to no equipment. Same for the Omni theater they went full digital so they no longer show 70mm films. My local Imax is Liemax no film equipment whatsoever, completely digital.

As others have said, yeah, the 2020 Empire dcp was still from the 2011 for some reason. Even though the 4k master had already been out there in UHD form on disc for several months (and for several months more on Disney+).

RotJ’s re-release this year was apparently the 4k. This still wasn’t shown in Dolby Cinema or Imax, though. I can’t help but feel like they’re holding those back for a big theatrical re-release of all the films at some point further down the road, maybe when they get around to converting the OT into 3D.
