Yes! I've always loved that performance! It gave the Emperor some kind of mystery in his very first appearance. You're not supposed to be really sure of what you're seeing. The Ian reshoot is just far too open. The scene drags on for far too long, and I don't really feel like it's a good introduction to the character. Don't get me wrong. I love Ian's performance as the Emperor, but I prefer the original version.
The way that Clive Revill says, "There is a great disturbance in the Force." I just love it.
Besides, Ian looks less like the Emperor in that particular scene than Clive did!
