“I love the OOT fan projects here - yet still want an official unaltered OT release. You too?”
Yes, of course. But I think even if it there was an official release we would still likely need fan projects to fix or improve them.
• 2004 SE DVD? Awful. “Deliberate creative decisions” bullshit, faulty discs, more changes, terrible blue coloring.
• 2006 GOUT DVD? Insulting. An obsolete and low effort release of a 13 year lasderdisc transfer, and huge DNR issues.
• 2011 SE blu ray? Awful. More coloring issues and loss of detail. More changes too. Nooo-oooooooo!
• 2019 SE 4k/UHD? Poor. Yet more changes, It was better than the previous efforts, but big losses of image detail.
That is a good point. Surprising too, isn’t it?

I’d still want an official release for the same reason as you, a chance for the talents on here to fix and improve upon any issues.
And also to make those unaltered cuts available to as a wider audience as possible. Available on the store shelves or on Disney+ for anyone interested to simply buy and experience. Without the technical knowledge sometimes needed to obtain and watch the awesome fan projects.
As in The 'Naysayer Guide’ by people who DON’T want an unaltered theatrical release of the OT thread:
4: “There are Harmy Despecialized Editions and TN1’s 4KXX fan versions - I have those and am happy with them!”
We know - we’re the same community that these quality projects originated from (and many more fan endeavours besides). 😃
We’re very happy with them too! Still, as amazing as these preservation projects are - and they are truly amazing… not everyone is aware of them. Nor is everyone computer-savvy enough to get a hold of them. Online fans do make a up hefty percentage of Star Wars fandom - but we are by no means in the majority… both older and younger fans, people not online much, and indeed people who are online - yet simply aren’t aware of the existence or availability of these fan preservations… would all benefit from having an official version to be able to simply buy.
An official high quality release - whether on the store shelf, available to order online, or even to buy and experience on the Disney+ streaming service, should be readily available and accessible to everyone.
And in the fading hope that Lucasfilm may actually put out an actual high QA release of the Original Trilogy, for the first time since the 90s, like you said.
