Yeah I just filmed a monitor playing my vcr tape of ESB. Then moved it into premiere and mirrored the footage horizontally and vertically, for the kaleidoscope look. I had been at the Chicago Underground Film Festival, and someone had taken an old movie and did a horizontal flip and merge and played the movie at 10x speed (since the movie was mostly made up of stationary shots with people talking, when played at 10x and flipped it made for a very odd visual, close to very fast hyper twitching), and it looked like a fun technique to play around with. Then I made the credits run 90 degrees from normal for the 'watch everyone turn their head' routine. They probably look THX'ey because of the resolution, i don't remember using a special font. The neet part (which isn't really understandable from just looking at it) is how the video changes as the camera moves toward and away from the stationary monitor. the camera wasn't on a tripod so i would zoom in and pan around, and that gives weird effects to the kaleidoscope end product.
I mimicked the first ESB trailer for the homepage... http://noneinc.com/SWAQTF/
Is that a catchy title or what...
