With this knowledge, by next year it will be possible that a Version 2.0 of the RIC could happen by us. We shall see.

does anyone have the extended cut of supergirl that is now out of print?

it was a two disc set I believe.

It is going for way too much money on the secondary market,

an it can't be bought officialy any more so why not include it in the extended fan set of superman 1-4?

Yes, I do. I have Anchor Bay's out-of-print limited 2-DVD edition that contains both the International cut and the extended director's cut. If you're intersted in either of those cuts, contact me.

What needs to be done with Supergirl, is that the Commentery from the Anchor Bay International Cut (Now out of print) needs to be placed over the Director's cut (in print) that has none. Another thing is that the director's cut could be trimed a bit. cut out that stupid love talk at the end between Jim Olsen and Lucy Lane.

What does the extended cut add? I haven't seen this movie in years, but I hope the extended version would improve it.

There's a place called Superman Cinema that can answer your question. It has the scoop on the alternate versions of all the Superman films (including "Supergirl"), and thus it can tell you exactly how much footage was added back to the extended cuts.

I just finished the DVD set (a week or so ago) so we'll get this up on the torrents and newsgroups in just a few weeks or less!!!

NEW -
Superman: The Movie - The International Salkind Cut (NON-Composite)
TomahawkJ VHS transfer and Angrysun DVD authoring

Running Time: 188 minutes (NTSC) - This alternate and VERY, VERY rare Recorded as aired NON-composite version includes all known footage. As the film and its sequels enjoyed its popularity in the early 1980’s, producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind took it upon themselves to prepare the film for its eventual television broadcast. In order to market the film to television stations around the world, the Salkinds re-edited the film with approximately 45 minutes of additional footage not released in theaters. Whereas Richard Donner had complete directorial control in editing the film for theatrical release, the Salkinds had control of the film for international distribution and television marketing, and the film was re-edited without Donner’s approval. The added footage brought the running time of the film to 188 minutes, the longest known version of the film to be assembled and shown to audiences around the world.

In addition to the many added scenes, a number of musical cues from John Williams’ original soundtrack were restored to the film, some of them not heard in the theatrical release of the film nor on the popular two-disc soundtrack album. Additional cues underscoring scenes on Krypton, the planet’s destruction, and Otis’ journey through the Metropolis subway tunnels were heard for the first time, while other cues underscoring the launch of Kal-El’s starship, Superman intercepting and hurling the missile into space, the aftershocks of the earthquake, and Superman in action, all previously heard on the original soundtrack album, were restored to the context of the film.

Two longer versions have been released since the original film ... one on ABC in 1981 at approx. 182 minutes, and the other on KCOP in Los Angeles in 1994 at approx. 188 minutes. Both contain footage and music not used in the theatrical version, including extensions of the destruction of Krypton, Smallville, Fortress of Solitude, Daily Planet, and earthquake scenes. Many people believe that KCOP was the first station that screened the 188 minute version in 1994, in fact this version was screened regularly in the 1980s on European and Australian Television, and so technically it should not be known exclusively as the KCOP cut. The Euro/Oz cut feature all the scenes on the KCOP version.

The version presented here on this fan created DVD was recorded as aired on Australian television in 1982. The quality of this transfer is fair, for a twenty three years old home recorded video tape. Sadly, the film is cut just right before Superman flashes his smile to the camera before the end credits and therefore the film is missing the last 15 seconds of the film and the last 4-5 minutes of end credits.

And to those that are not aware, this is a PAL transfer and this means that the film is being shown 4% faster than it was originally intended to be shown, the most obvious effect of this 4% speedup is that the film runs for 4% less time.

Rikter,

I think it would be wise to also keep on your trade list the "Darth Anonymous" NTSC composite of the SIC of Superman: The Movie if only for the sake of those here in the U.S. that do not have players that can also play PAL. This way they can have a choice.

A damn fine cover! Is there a Hi-res version online?

Thanks very much for the torrents. I wonder if anyone could help me to attain a copy of Superman extended version. What were the fan edits like of that? I have the Australian TV broadcast, but it wont play the last 15 or so minutes of disc 1 anymore ( Its been battered about )

I have also have lost the tape I transfered from. I saw the SE DVD last night and was a little dissapointed in it compared to the extended one. First I miss the Krypton guard that flew to the Jor Els headquaters at the beginning in the SE version, and one of the kryptonions eyes is also missing. The camera angle looked straght out of a Dario Argento film which was great.

Anyway I have a few things to trade. Superman IV International version and Original Return of the Jedi (transfered from a fresh just opened thx vhs w/ 8 minute Lucas interview) I have many Horror and TV shows to trade aswell. I'm sort of a n00b with dealing online, but have many neat things to trade. So any help would be appreciated.

cheers

Kiwi Slasher,

The best version of the extended Superman I that I can recommend to you is my edit (my digitally edited recreation of the Salkind International Edit). E-mail me and we'll discuss things.

It's a cool DVD but don't forget to mention that it is a Composite Edit and that it does jump from widescreen to fullscreen at parts and the quality varys from added footage.

I will also be uploading the AS AIRED on Australian TV in just a week or two so if you have broadband hold tight AND I will also be uploading the HipHats COMPOSITE version a week or two AFTER that

Good call, Rikter! This way Superman fans will have a choice, should they decide to go the Torrent way.

Some guy is selling Superman 3 on eBay for $22.99US

Whats the story on someone viewing Superman IV on TV with first nuclear man scenes? this a hoax right? He said he couldn't tape it because his vcr was broken !! A longer version will pop up one day. They always do.

A question, is it worth purchasing the rare japanese Laser discs of IV ? Are they better quality then LD dvd transfers?

I was out bid the other day, but it went too high for me to rebid. $60US + $20 shipping!! I was hoping another one pops up cheaper and gets less attention.

I'm sure, Kiwi, somewhere out there, there is someone (maybe Rikter) who has a DVD-from-LD transfer of SIV. Remember, the quality of LD will be the same on a DVD-R transfer, and LD surpasses VHS in many ways.

I have a DVD-from-LD transfer of the Criterion/International cut of "Blade Runner', for example, and it looks great for video quality of the times.

WAY WORTH it man - I was outbid last time at $120!!!!

I do have a LD to DVDr version of it and it will also be uploaded to myspleen.net and I also think the newsgroups (If I sent a copy to Segaflip - if not I WILL!) but I did not do the transfer so if either you or I score the LD - I will do a newer and better Dual Layer transfer
