Your Favorite Star Wars Film

Author

I know this has been asked a hundred times, but...

Which Episode of Star Wars if your absolute favorite?

I'm undecided, but my sister like ROTS the best, because it's the only she can understand. (And because she has a crush on Hayden. )

<EDIT>
If Adamwankenobi answers this thread, Lucas will be assassinated on June 17, 2006.

<EDIT>
He has answered. Lucas is doomed.

I love Return of the Jedi. But now after the dvd, I'm a little annoyed after what's happened.

Revenge of the Sith is THE absolute best. It is the darkest and most emotional, followed closely by Empire.

The Empire Strikes Back!!!!
George Lucas was seduced by the dark side. The OOT ceased to exist in his mind and became the Special Editions...." "They're more maching now than movies. Twisted and evil."

The originals versions are what I'm talking about.

And I choose ANH for its unyielding creative energy in all aspects, fx, performances, editing, everything. It's fast, fun, funny, and mystically appealing until midichlorians came about. It's a great movie. I give it my highest recommendation. Check it out if you haven't already. Unliked the newer batch, the performances are so relaxed, so convincing, that you hardly think of it as a film... everyone's so sincere except han. Everyone's cast perfectly, and the editing is superbly done to make everything feel just right, with no loose strings attached. Story begins, story ends... the perfect package. It's the movie's energy, which I think many fan-edits aspire to have, that keeps you glued from start to finish. I feel highly exausted though pleased with its conclusion after watching ANH. I feel curious about what happens next after watching the somewhat cliffhanger conclusion to ESB. I'm somewhat nonplused, but nevertheless satsified after watching RotJ. I'm honestly confused after watching the PT, but glad to have experienced more of ilm and john william's impressive work.

ANH for president. Yeeehaaahh
He big in nothing important in good elephant.

'The Phantom Menace.'

I love the story, the pace, the action, and especially Jar-Jar. Although, what would be really cool is if for the Saga Box Set Jar-Jar was replaced by a puppet. It would be so much more realistic and fit in nicely with the original trilogy. What would be even cooler is if they could get Sebastian Shaw to reprise his role as Anakin and then digitally alter him to make him look like a 9 year old. They can do that, can't they?

I voted for ANH. I won't rehash why it's my favourite, it just is...

And I have that right. That's my honest opinion. ROTS is just as good as ESB, from the point of view of someone who grew up seeing them as one story. I saw them a lot different than most. As my introduction to Star Wars in 99', I watched TPM, then immediately afterwards, I watched ANH, ESB, and ROTJ. I gues you could say I was forced to accept them all, right from the beginning. What fascibnated me about Star Wars was Anakin's story, not Luke's. And my favorite character has always been Obi-Wan. Compared to him, Luke is quite weak and lacks depth.

Absolute statements like this aren't really opinion unless you put the words 'I think' in front of it...

That's my opinion anyway.

It is implied that it is my opinion. It cannot be proven that any SW film is better than, equal to, or less than, another SW film. But that sure doesn't stop statements I see abovce like "Star Wars - The original and the greatest, followed by The Empire Strikes Back ." How about those comments I hear around here like "The OOT is so much better than the SE's." Buy, they seem to push that as fact!

I see what you're getting at, but no.

If someone says 'Empire definitely' they're just answering the question with their opinion. They don't need to say it's their opinion, 'cause it's their writing next to their username, so of course it's their opinion.

But you were actually imploring people to all of a sudden change their minds and agree with you that ROTS is at least equal to ESB.

"Oh, actually, come to think of it, I agree with you. ROTS IS at least equal to ESB!"

This, of course, has nothing to do with the price of eggs in China.

I can infer that you're stating your opinion, but the way you worded it just screamed that you were trying to get feedback. Kinda like, "Hey, look at me! I'm stating an opinion I know you don't like! Try to start something with me!" I mean, you'd already posted it once on this thread.

You confused me there, Ingo, by putting them 1,2,3,6,4,5....I almost chose the wrong one.

My favourite is definitely ANH, my reason being it's complete on its own. You don't need to see the others. Now, I know that it was done that way because there was no assurance of a sequel, but I've always loved being able to watch that movie not just as part of a series, but as a film all on its own. I could watch that film over and over and never watch any others and I'd still be happy. Not to say that I don't love the other films, but they just all feel like I need to watch them all to get the one.

That, and I have it memorized.

You are correct in saying it works on its own. It could have easily been one classic, standalone film, admired for all time, in the way of "2001" and "Blade Runner." But, he chose to continue the story, which was also a good thing.

You know, on a similar note, I think that it really would be interesting if, when Lucas finally releases the ANH deleted scnes, some of our fan editors edit in the deleted scenes for ANH to make it more of an "'American Graffiti in Space" as Lucas' friends once called it.

Star Wars, Empire and Jedi are the well known best and still stamp on the Prequels. That's a fact

i agree, as much as i like the tragedy aspect of rots, the dialogue and acting is still off putting as well as the overly mediocore cged look. i wish lucas had pushed for more believable acting, i know he was going after a style, but a little more effort in that regard would have helped. also the prequels dont flow as well, they just feel like a bunch of loosely connected scenes strung one after another

My favorite is definitely the original Star Wars, I can watch that over and over, because it was the only standalone movie, and it definitely the most fun SW movie to watch. You can watch that movie, without caring about the redemption of Darth Vader, or wondering about all the tie-ins of Jango Fett to Boba Fett, Luke being related to Leia, whose father was Vader, and Anakin creating C-3PO, it is what it is, and it my favorite movie of all-time.

Although I do think ESB is a little better than the original, not by much, but it didn't need to set anything up with the characters, so the movies get going from frame one. Thus, every SW movie is inferior after that.
