To bring the discussion a little bit back to discussing The Mandalorian I was looking at the writer’s credit for season 3 as well as the production information for The Mandalorian, Book of Bobba Fett, and Ahsoka, and I wonder if the reason might possibly be found there for season 3 being weaker than the first 2 seasons. Both seasons 1 and 2 were mostly written by Jon Favreau with usually 1 written by Filoni and 1 by another writer. Season 3 is mostly the same, but Favreau wrote every single episode of season 3 with episodes 3, 4, and 7 being co-written, 3 with Noah Floor and 4 and 7 being written both by him and Filoni. I’m wondering if him writing every single episode and stretching himself thin might’ve been what resulted in season 3 being worse than the other 2. Yes, he had help with the other 3 episodes but in other seasons he only wrote 6 out of the 8 episodes. And the writing is really the main problem with season 3 as I don’t think there are any huge problems with the directing or the acting this season. We also can’t discount that Book of Bobba Fett which came out between seasons 2 and 3 and was really bad and that didn’t help with season 3 either. I also think maybe the production schedule led to the drop in quality as well. Season 1 was announced in 2017, filmed in 2018-2019, and released in 2019, but it most certainly was being worked on beforehand with probably a longer writing process than the subsequent seasons. Season 2 was announced in 2019, filmed in 2019-2020, and released in 2020. Book of Bobba Fett was announced in 2020 filmed in 2021 and released in 2021 and Season 3 was also announced in 2020 and filmed in 2021. There was only a 3-month gap between the end of filming for Bobba Fett and the filming for Season 3. And I’d imagine that some of the writing for Season 3 and Bobba Fett would’ve had to have been overlapping as well. Also, Favreau claims that he’s completely written season 4 as well and he would’ve likely have been writing that during production of season 3. They would’ve needed to be writing Season 3 whilst production and filming for Bobba Fett was going on. Also during this time Dave Filoni was also writing and working on Ahsoka as well and as he wrote every episode, his attention would’ve probably had to have focused more on Ahsoka which he’s show running than Mandalorian and Book of Bobba Fett which he also wrote an episode for. I wonder if these were the factors that led to Season 3 of The Mandalorian being disappointing. Filoni would definitely have needed to take a step back from Mandalorian to work on Ahsoka. I’m thinking that they probably had more time to write seasons 1 and 2 since those were being produced stand-alone, whilst season 3 was written whilst the production of 2 other spin-offs was occurring, which might’ve left for less writing time.
