Recreating the crawling text..

I'm trying to suss out a way to redo the opening crawl for my AOTC edit. I've tried doing it in finalcut but it looks like crap. I have afterffects but no clue how to use it

If I make a new crawl I will delete the scene in palpatine's office at the beginning and just put in the crawl that the chancellor has assigned Obi and Ani to protect Padme while she is on coruscant. If I have to keep the original crawl then that scene has to stay and I have to go back into one or two other scenes and reinsert dialogue about the military creation act and the seperatist movement, since niether of those are refered to in the current edit. The seperatists, count dooku, and the military creation movement are all things that are revealed through Obi-wan's investigation.

I have a template and routine using Combustion, MS Word and Vegas, with timing based on the "original crawl" as shown in the Documentary on the OT DVDs. If you give me your text, I'll create your crawl and send you the AVI. I've done this for a few other notable individuals.

Will it be compositied on the starfield or will I have to do that? Its going into finalcut so it will have to be an .MOV, but I can convert to that using compressor if need be.

Choice is yours. I can put it on a black or "greenscreen" background, and you can key it out for your own background (recommended). If not, then which starfield did you have in mind?

I've not tried making a .mov file before, but it should be okay. Vegas does carry that option.

Darth Editous did a really cool thing with the one he did for me. Since I wanted to go with a pan down after the crawl, he took the background frame and slowly flipped it, pixel by pixel, during the crawl. The star fields therefore matched the title card positioning at the start and the pan down positioning at the end. Funny thing is, you don't see it when it runs in real time, but if you speed up to 4 x, then you notice what's happening.

Don't know if this is applicable to what you're doing Rebel Scumb.

MeBeJedi,

is the starfield for Episode 2. Probably easiest for me if you do it right onto a freeze frame of the starfield since I have no expirence with compositiing and would hate for you to go to all the trouble to do me up a nice crawl only for me to make it look craptastic once composited.

As an unrelated sidenote, I went into ANH and captured the sound fx of the stormtroopers radio "click" when in and out when ever they speak. added it to all the clonetroopers in EP2 and EP3

EDIT: I noticed a typo in my crawl text. Just corrected it. In the second paragraph it said

Meanwhile, PADME AMIDALA

returning to CORUSCANT to <<---- deleted the "to"
as the Senator of NABOO.

so now its:

Two questions that come to mind.

1) Shouldn't "darkside" be two words? That's how it is throught the scripts and screenplays.

2) I was under the impression that Padme has been voted into office, so having her "transfer" her title to a new queen sounds odd (this isn't a biggie, but it just sounds funny to me.)

Just for the record (although I PM'd Rebel Scumb this already), Rebel11_38 did a FABULOUS job on a crawl for my edit. The crawl is justified with excellent spacing, it's yellow in color like the OT, and it pans down instead of up. However, Reb1138 didn't have to flip the starfield gradually- he just flipped the frame after the crawl faded out and used that for the starting image, doing the opening logo from scratch.

Well I've never really liked the idea of an elected queen so thats why I went for it as transfered.

Is darkside two words? I guess that makes sense, not sure why I thought otherwise.

Why did you want that? (And I assume you meant "up instead of down"?)

In the original crawl for Episode II, the camera pans up instead of down. All of the other 5 movies pan down, and I wanted this one to pan down as well (with a 180 rotation to the frame). So Reb1138 was able to do that and make it pan down by taking the first frame after the crawl faded out, rotating it 180, and using that as the background plate for the new crawl. Hence, the gradual flipping wasn’t necessary.

Okay...on its way. It's 200+ Mbs, so I can't use Rapidshare. Maybe you can put up the Yousendit link when you're done so others can see it too. I've tailored it to be as close as possible to the spacing and pacing of the original crawl.

Well, I really liked Rebel's as well. It's very sharp-looking, but the spacing is too exact for my personal taste (but it certainly made me go back and adjust mine a little more. I liked how he had "Anakin Skywalker" right in the middle of the sentence.
