Info & Idea: Original Trilogy DVD footage...

 (Edited)

I was going to throw this up a while ago but figured it may have been posted.
I’m not sure if it has or not but feel free to delete it if it has.

Just wanted to let you guys know that i have found a source of DVD quality footage of the OT…
which first backs up my idea that Lucas does have the originals backed up somewhere…

so for anyone who is interested all you have to do is get your hands on the THX demo discs that are given to places like Best Buy/Future Shop…
they are given by the Monster Cable Reps i believe so that they can be put on display to show off their home theatre they’re selling…

just an FYI for all those who want nice looking original trilogy footage…
trying to get one for myself right now.

Is this the disc with THX WOW! on it, and the Episode I podrace in DTS? I think this is available as a torrent somewhere.

Is this the entire film(s) or just a sampling for demo purposes?

If it's the complete film(s) this would be like finding a Unicorn that dispensed beer out of it's teats.

Even if it's only selected scenes, I wonder if there are intact sequences without the 97/04 SFX ie: Mos Eisley and the Death Star battle...

If he's referring to what I think he is... there's a disk with a very sharp, yet crappily colored version of the original three spirits in RotJ.

ROTFLMAO!

The WOW disc has a nice, un-Praxis'ed Death Star explosion in DVD quality, but only from ROTJ.

What about "The Story of Star Wars" bonus disc? Doesn't it have DVD quality footage of the OOT, albeit in foolscreen?
Author
Time
Nope, they're 2004 SE. It has Hayden in RotJ.

No, it has Sebatian Shaw, I have that disc. I was asking if the actual footage is DVD quality or just some lower quality slapped on a DVD.

It looked like lower quality to me. The fullscreenness and amount of dust on the print makes it look like it was taken from a stock source rather than newly telecined for the DVD.

Believe, dont make fun. He COULD have the real thing. Dont scare him away

THX WOW also has the Shaw as Anakin footage. Don't know if Story of Star Wars has anything O-OT that WOW doesn't have, but it might. But I can't think of anything off the top of my head anything new it does have.

i know for a fact this disc has shaw in the ending as well as an exploding death star from ANH without rings...
now i saw this footage on a 92" screen, the quality was much better than laserdisc i'll tell you that... (i know because i have a 92" and watch my laserdisc versions on it all the time)

what i can do maybe is borrow the DVD from work take a couple screen caps and post them on here...
i'll also make a copy of it of course....

one unfortunate thing is that there is a THX logo in the bottom right hand corner...

but again if this is already out there to get please let me know... just so im not beating a dead horse...

Almost correct. Shaw is there (but the scene is cut short) and the DS is from ROTJ. When I said "de-Paxis'ed", I was referring to the moon of Praxis in Star Trek which first gave us this effect.

"one unfortunate thing is that there is a THX logo in the bottom right hand corner..."

Not on my version. Even if it did, that wouldn't be a problem because mine is in widescreen. I have the LD and DVD version (though I don't recall if the DVD version is anamorphic.)

No it doesn't, unless there are somehow different copies of Story of Star Wars circulating. On mine it has Hayden grinning like a madman.

Then there must be different copies, because at the end of the Skywalker section, it's most definitely Sebastian Shaw on my copy. Same goes for many others on this board who have spoken up about the disc's contents.

Yeah, Shaw is definately on it. I just thought that might be of some use to all of the editors here, if the footage actually is considered DVD quality.

The THX WOW! disc is pretty common, I've got it. In fact, the version of Soundtrack! on it wound up on my Return of the Ewok. Annoyingly, much of the disc is 4:3 letterboxed widescreen, that's then converted to 16x9, so you get the actual image pretty tiny surrounded by black on all four sides!

Oh, wtf?

I'm going insane, I just checked and it WAS Shaw. I was positive it was Hayden. Then the question is, where did I see Hayden as the ghost? I have the scene clear in my mind, but I've never seen the 2004 DVD.

Anyhow, oops, my bad.

That's a sub-title stream and can be turned off.

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.
