Making the Obi-Wan & Anakin training session (From the Kenobi series) work in an AOTC edit. — Page 4

Tried to soften the scene somewhat to match the rest of AOTC. Did some blurring, sharpening and then noise removal before colouring and adding light grain. This isn’t using any deaged version of the scene also.

Tried to base it on this shot somewhat, but the bloom and colour still isn’t quite right.

I’d say the visuals are pretty darn close, all things considered. After the de-age you might not be able to tell mid-viewing, only if you put them side by side like that.

That transition is perfect. I think the visuals are pretty close too, with the de aging and all. As long as the music is integrated well I probably wouldn’t notice at all if I was a first time viewer.

I just rewatched this, the one that went from the training scene to the elevator and honestly unless you’re looking for the differences they aren’t that obvious between Anakin. As for Obi-Wan, I think it works, the hair/beard difference because of what is going on. Obi-Wan’s hair changes and gets all ruffled because of the fight so it’s all messed up and out of place by the end of the training scene. So we begin the elevator scene it’s all sleek and nice, plus!, his beard is trimmed BECAUSE he is going to meet a senator (yes, one he’s met before, but still) be her protector.

So, yeah, the fact that Obi basically got a fresh trim and cut/style to his hair makes perfect sense as to the change in his bear/hair. And, again, unless you’re looking for it, it’s just not that obvious with Anakin. So, I think it really does work. Also, that’s with the scenes back-to-back. Having the Padme scene with the chancellor between the two would make it work even better and those changes even less noticeable.

A de-aging deepfake on Obi still would not be a bad idea, though.

I don’t like how Obi-Wan is a total dirtback in this scene. First he loses, then he lectures Anakin, claiming that his need for victory is blinded him, only to fight on until he is victorious. If anyone is blinded by a need for victory in this scene it is him and not his apprentice, who fought more aggressively, but fair and unlike his master, showed some decent sportsmanship after the fight.

So I recut the scene to fix this. I also trimmed down Anakin’s aggression, so that their duel feels more like a friendly game. Apart from that I tried to stabilize some shots and match the colors to AOTC. I also stretched the footage vertically to make Anakin’s face look a little slimmer and slightly adjusted Anakin’s voice in the beginning.

“Vader! Hologram, now!”

I like the edit you made in the ending, connecting the parts of the flashback. Flow much better than just put one part right after the other.

But the insert of that bit where they smile at each other during the battle didn’t fit well for me, particularly.

I wanted to break up the tension there, because it should feel more like two friends having a good time. But I get what you mean, it sticks a little bit out, because their movement and position in the room doesn’t match that well with the rest of the scene. A bit like Anakin teleporting through the garage during his confession to Padmé.

“Vader! Hologram, now!”

Idk if it would work but I also could picture a version where Palpatine is talking about putting her under the protection of the Jedi, and Palpatine says, “maybe someone you’re familiar with, like an old friend…” (either cut there or keep ‘Master Kenobi’) then hard cut to the Anakin/Obi-Wan training scene.

I can tell you I usually cut straight from Palps saying “Master Kenobi” to Obi and Ani in the elevator. This could work too if the scene actually brings something to the table.

I think Obi-Wan being harsh to Anakin is good set up for Anakin’s whiny behavior about him throughout the movie, actually. But that is mostly edited out in an edit such as Hal’s. So your version would work best in an edit that follows his approach, for sure.

Does anybody have any plans on incorporating this in an edit? I know Bobson expressed interest in creating an AOTC ultra-extended edition (can’t wait for that!).

The user Phase3 is planning to incorporate it into his ‘streamlined’ edit. He has mentioned on the fanedit forums that he was almost done with the edit. He is more active there.

I also agree that removing Kenobi’s excess hostility fits in better with most edits of the movie as well.

You could also remove a lot of Anakin’s whiny behavior and as a result make him act more like Darth Vader, that sounds like it’d kill two birds with one stone 😃

I have incorporated it into my own personal edit of the film which is essentially just a fanedit mashup of Hal9000’s and L8wtr’s with some of my own touches here and there, like adding in the training scene best I could and rescoring the transition from Anakin and Padme kissing to Kamino which I found to be originally a bit harsh in Hal9000’s edit.

I am quite happy with how my own personal edit turned out in regards to adding in the training scene.

The scene has finally been finished; I made more adjustments to the SFX and colours, and I’m happy with it now.

The AOTC Streamlined edit is nearly done, however I haven’t had as much time to work on the edit lately as I would like…

Personally, I’d like to incorporate the duel in my edit of Attack of the Clones, by putting it in between of the deleted scene with Padmé addressing the Senate and Padmé’s private meeting with Palpatine. However, I’m still waiting for the perfect cut of the duel to be realized. We need a cut that fits perfectly with the colour and tone of the rest of the movie, with a credible voice change for Anakin (his voice is too deep in the original duel), with a less aggressive behavior from Anakin’s part, and with a perfect de-aged appearance of the characters. Also, the brightness of the lightsabers must be turned down dramatically, because in the rest of the movie the lightsabers aren’t as bright as in the original duel. None of this stuff has yet been accomplished satisfactorily in my opinion, so I’m still waiting.

I personally think it flows better going right before the elevator scene. Though I guess if you share the redone scene by itself anyone could make an edit putting it wherever they want.

I did the same way phase 3 did save for voice adjustment, worked aok for me. My cut keeps the establishing shot but cuts the entire elevator scene otherwise so YMMV.
Personally I think folks are overthinking adding this, the film is what is it. You add and watch it or you don’t.
