The original idea for the scrapped film was much better. Vader would remain a badass, nearly killing Obi-Wan, who would have luckily escaped. Vader would think that Obi-Wan had died, but still with doubts as to whether he had survived or not, as Vader would not have seen him dead, necessarily. The best ending for both, and one that would make more sense within the chronology.
Vader was pathetic at the end of the series, and Obi-Wan was a coward.
I liked the duel and dialogue. But I think that was something I expected on the feature films, not in a TV series. I think George Lucas went too far with Anakin as a kid on Episode I and Anakin as a jedi on episodes II and III. Episode III should feature an insanely dangerous Anakin/Darth Vader hybrid of sorts and their last meeting before Episode IV should be something akin to what they did in the series. Then it would make much more sense when they are both on the Death Star and Vader is feeling Obi-Wan’s presence.
But I think you are right, Vader should end up in the upper hand and think Obi-Wan is weak and a fool. Perhaps it can be modified in a way that it looks like Vader was somehow at an unfair disadvantage? Like… “yeah, Obi-Wan only won that match because he cheated, the old man.”
