Everybody loves to pick on the imperial stormtroopers as bad shots. But really, the rebel soldiers at the deginning of ANH are the worst shots I have seen in the trilogy. Think about it.
  • They were carrying single-shot semi-automatic pistols.
  • They had a textbook chokepoint
  • And the advantige of familiar ground on ship with a lot of corridors and opportunities for an ambush.
What was the result?
  • They paniced
  • Set up no obstacles or fortifications.
  • Fired blindly
  • Only took down 2 stormtroopers
  • Fell back too early, and failed to hold a defensible position.
  • Surrendered.

The imperials: Were in a corridor fight, on unfamiliar ground, with poor visibility, carrying submachine guns, displayed coolness under fire and fired deliberate shots.

In the detention block shootout. The officers there were taken by surprise, yet fired deliberate rounds and didn't panic.

Who are the poor soldiers again?
