If this whole “New Republic buried in bureaucracy and being eaten from the inside without even noticing it” ends up directly leading to the First Order, then this whole Coruscant plot is gonna be harsh to edit out of any edits.

Anyways, I really don’t like the way they are portraying the New Republic as stereotypical incompetent clueless morons, but oh well, ever since TFA, can’t say that’s surprising.

I 100% agree. They have to make the New Republic this awful just to justify the mess they were written as in the Sequels. It’s honestly a shame, since it feels like it all just undermines the OT.

I know it won’t be possible by the end of this, but I’d honestly like to see most of this incompetent New Republic edited out…

Good thing you’ve got the Book of Boba Fett content to push up the runtime, cause holy moly is this season a trainwreck. Everything that’s happened could have been condensed to 2 episodes of a season MAX.

lmfao, this season is a faneditor’s best dream and worst nightmare at the same time. Hardly anything of importance to be left so it’s pretty easy and straight to the point to adapt, but… that also means that there’s hardly anything cool and vital to work with and what fan would wish for that?

The problem is both that there is too much content and too little. There are a lot of random fluff and side-stories in this season, and they’re kind of fun, but they feel like distractions. At the same time, important events do happen. These deserve more weight than they receive, but in order to do that, you would need to build up getting to them, and that connective tissue doesn’t really exist.

I’m thinking that the best thing to do may be similar to how Archbagel reordered events to place the prison ship adventure between the Grogu job and the decision to free him in season 1. In other words, take some of the random stuff and recontextualize it as part of a psychological journey to what becomes more of a tentpole moment.

Yup, it would be awesome if all this “side” stuff could be put in between grogu’s goodbye and him returning to Din

I think the scene where Djin gives Bo the darksaber could come shortly after the events of episode 2. It doesn’t make sense that he had the saber all this time and only now explains that Bo is rightfully worthy. Like, why didn’t he do this MUCH sooner?

Maybe you could switch the first scene of the new chapter to somewhere in the beginning of the movie ? It’s a nice filler that shows well what are the mandalorians up to and how they use the stolen imperial starships.

I think it can be an enjoyable movie, you could trim a bit the 1st ep, leaving a bit of pirate stuff (it’s fun and its a nice opening for the later storyline with Mandos rescuing the capital), trim the 2nd ep, leave some bits of 3x03 (depending on how much impact it ll have on the whole story), trim heavily 3x04, trim considerably 3x05 and cut 95% of the 3x06. The 3x03 side story can serve well to make the pacing better, to fill some moments/time jumps between the quests 😉

Yes, please remove that awful Romeo and Juliet scene. I think Bo and Din arriving on the planet and them meeting up with the other Mandos is all that’s worth keeping from this episode. Everything else belongs in the bin.

Yeah, you’re right. I really thought the scene of the Mandalorians being mercenaries was interesting, something we haven’t seen since I think AOTC, but I had forgotten about the love scene that occurs in the middle, which is really lame. I’m sorry ^_^’

I wish I could find this post I read from someone about this season because it laid it out very succinctly, but I can’t. Basically, I love your work, but Smudger, I think you’re wrong about saying that the first episode had pointless stuff (Nevarro, the monster, etc.). It’s pretty important and it’s all building up to what is to come.

The Mandalorians are in that unsafe locale, the kid almost gets eaten by a monster in the middle of their ritual because they have no safe space. Meanwhile, Din goes to Nevarro where we see that he’s made peace with Greef who he fought with, his fellow Mandalorians fought for him against, but now he can go to him for help and get help in return. Din’s trip to Bo is important because Grogu needs to know where she is so that he can go back there to get her and bring her into the fold which in turn appears to be about bringing the Mandalorians together, the different sects together. When Bo-Katan joined Mando that situation got her believing again, got her with the others. And then she was able to lead them as a true leader, before getting her old peeps back, thus combining sects.

Now, they were ready to follow Mando and Bo-Katan because of their help (saving the kid) and they are ready to live where they are because of the danger and they have a place to go (as seen in ep 1 with the monster attack, and Greef offering Mando land for him and his people). So, yes, episode 1 does have important stuff!

I disagree that there is little plot progression at all. It’s happening and has been going on since the first scene with the ritual. The theme of this season is clearly about Din and Bo-Katan working together to rebuild the Mandalorians. I DO agree that the Dr. Pershing story should have been spaced out throughout the episodes, though. Absolutely. Other than that, I think this season is fantastic.

I love your work, I really do, but if you’re cutting out so much of this, I’m not sure this one is going to work for me. 😦

I gotta say after this episode, you may be able to just remove the Pershing stuff altogether as well. Did he really add anything? Most his scenes involved the awful New Rebuplic and everything with him and Kane don’t appear to be going anywhere. Kane felt more like she was there just to reintroduce Gideon back to the plot.

Hopefully next episode we will see something that made all their scenes worth the time spent with them. But I’m kind of doubting it.

I might be alone here, but I have to state my case for one of the few parts of this season that I’ve enjoyed.

I’m a big proponent of keeping the entirety of the Pershing plot in tact. My main reason is simply that the episode was handled far better from the rest of this season in terms of dialogue, performance, and direction. Keeping it in gives the story just a little more credibility as a piece of quality media.

But in terms of its relevance to the rest of the plot. I think it’s very important because it sets up the New Republic as a failed institution. Later episodes kinda touch on this, but in a far less engaging (and more poorly acted/directed) way. Having Pershing go through these repeated Blade Runner-style baseline tests, and seeing Pershing working away in those rows and rows of Andor-style cubicles, is a way more intriguing way of showing us the state of the New Republic, rather than simply seeing Carson Teva get denied backup for Nevarro.

I think showing this side of the New Republic is very important set up for the endgame of the whole Imperial Remnant plotline.

I propose that the Pershing scenes just be spread out across the film, rather than be condensed or removed.
