Soon I’ll be updating the alternate version of LOE in which Padme dies.

I didn’t originally have an alternate version, but exported one in response to frequent requests for it. However, LOE really isn’t set up for Padme to die at the end.

So, I thought it’d be reasonable to update just the alternate version, to make it a little more suitable for that ending.

The changes have to do with the order of scenes as the political and prophetic elements are set on the board. In LOE, we put Anakin through all the political twists and turns before dunking him into a single tantalizing nightmare which Palpatine takes advantage of.

Here’s the new order of scenes for the alternate, ‘Padme Dies’ version:

  • Anakin learns Padme is pregnant
  • Greivous arrives on Utupau and speaks with Sidious
  • Nightmare, Anakin walks out of bedroom
  • Opera scene (excised mention of Greivous intel, since it’s not followed up with for a while)
  • Yoda’s counseling session
  • Anakin misses briefing and Obi-Wan warns him of Palpatine
  • Palpatine appoints Anakin to Jedi Council
  • Council doesn’t like this
  • Bail’s apartment deleted scene
  • Anakin is asked to spy on Palpatine
  • Jedi traffic scene
  • Anakin and Padme talk about their political views and have a bad time
  • Troops setting up on Khshyyyk, and LOE continues more or less the same from here until the ending (same as current alternate version ending)

This ordering retains most of what LOE does with this section of the movie, except the nightmare now functions as a catalyst and is followed up by Palpatine in the opera scene framing for the audience all the political scenes that follow. We get to keep the scene between Anakin and Yoda, which is nice. Anakin still never tells anyone about his nightmares other than when Palpatine brings it up as a gotcha. But, one difference is that I have to use the theatrical version of the “I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi” instead of the deleted scene version because the spot carved out for it in the main version of LOE isn’t there.
