I think we’re overcomplicating things with all this “destiny” and “fate” mumbo-jumbo.

“Leia told me she sensed a different calling than a Jedi’s.”

It’s short, simple, and to the point. She had more motivation to focus her efforts on being a mother and political activist.

The thing is, that line ties up with the next one, where someone would come and finish her Jedi journey. I think the implication should be that she had to let go of that path, not that she just felt like doing politics over religion. At the end of her Jedi training she sensed that was not the path she was meant to take. It’s easy then for the audience to put two and two together, in that she simply went back to what she was good at, as she says in TFA. Her letting go of the Jedi mantle then comes as a result of her training and being in tune with the Force, and NOT as a rejection of it.

What was the reason for changing the line in the first place if I may ask? I interpret the line as Leia quitting because she is afraid of losing her son, only to realize that the only way to save her son and the galaxy is to embrace her Jedi training despite the fact that Ben might die in the process. If anything it would be cool to lean into this as a sort of character arc and imply that maybe throughout the movie she’s struggling with the choice to help save the galaxy and lose Ben or do nothing. This also explains why her corpse disappears only when Ben does. And, at the end of the day, they both still get a happy ending, as they’re reunited as ghosts thanks to Jonh.

The goal in replacing it was to avoid spoiling the end of the film. Also, to avoid a similar thing to what you described. Leia sacrifices her life to bring back Ben, and if she knew that would result in his death as well due to it requiring her to be a Jedi again it muddies the waters a bit. It’s better for Ben’s sacrifice to be of his own agency rather than because of some vision his mom had 30 years ago.

I’ve encountered some good news this morning. The voice cloning tool recently introduced “labels” on your clones, allowing you to specify how you want the AI to produce the voice. I added in a slower pace and more gravelly voice variables, and this was the result (based on Burbin’s line suggestion):

This sounds extremely similar to the way Mark speaks in the film. For a contrasting example, here is the same line with just the slower pace variable (no gravelly variable):

Mmmm, that’s really something. Sounds a lot closer. Worst you could say about that now is that it sounds like a different take or recorded in a different room or something. (I’m sure EQ could compensate.)

Could the lines for Leia be given the same treatment? Between this and ChatGPT I’m starting to feel some existential dread! lol

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Yeah, here are some of her lines with the “slow pace” and more gravelly voice variables:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SR_beM3RIN1yxqGQ-oAP7zo-odIY0jot/view?usp=sharing

And here’s another (possibly better) take of that last Luke line:

We could opt to replace all of Luke’s vision voice over in the hopes that it sounds more natural that way.

Nice I like that.

I’m going to be taking a two day hiatus to prepare for and participate in a competition. When I return, I’ll be sure to generate any other ideas you guys suggest.

Best of luck. When you return victorious hopefully we’ll have a nice list.

List of new changes, I suppose? 😃

“The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.”
-Sheev Palpatine, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005)

I meant a list of lines to generate.

Which am I missing? Or what other ideas have we?

Leia:

“He’s too dangerous.”

“Rey.” “Rey!” (To maybe replace one of her two uses of her name which are obviously the same recording.)

“A Jedi needs her weapon.”

“Ben… come home.”

Luke:

“Lesson three.”

“It was the last night of her training. Leia told me that she had sensed the end of her Jedi path. She surrendered it to me and said that one day it would be picked up again by a Jedi who would finish her journey.” (And variants of this.)

Rey:

“The Jedi texts taught me something.”

Kylo Ren:

“They paid for your protection… in more than one way.”

“What Palpatine doesn’t know is we’ve become a dyad in the force, Rey.”

“I sense unease about my appearance, Captain Hux.”

C-3PO:

Something for his short conversation with the two troopers (and the troopers could easily say anything).

“Where is an R2 unit when you need one?”

“I still don’t understand this assignment.”

“Mechanical work? I thought I was a rebel spy.”

(And a few for my Ep1 edit)

“I was protocol droid to the Manakron system’s chief negotiator.” (And maybe a variant where he abruptly cuts himself off midway through the last word.)

“Oh, my, sounds rather perilous. I hope never to find myself on a mission of that nature.”

“Oh, my. Space travel is quite perilous, indeed. I have no desire to board a starship ever again.”

“Oh, my. Sounds rather perilous. I hope never to end up on a starship again.”

“Indeed, starships are quite perilous. I didn’t even survive last time I was aboard one.”

“Master Annie, you have repaired me quite well. However, I should prefer it if I were a little more… completed.”

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Good to see you getting carried away with this new Ai stuff too. It’s really a remarkable bit of software. Looking forward to seeing what you achieve with it, and the fact you’re revisiting your old edits. NICE! 😃

Don’t need to be generated again necessarily, just trying to get a list of all of them that I am aware of or would like.

And that last line for Luke sounds really good. Is it with the gravelly option turned on? I wish I had more free time, but the family situation has not afforded me any time whatsoever to work on this stuff; Hoping to mix it into the scene to be able to tell how well it will gel with what it needs to gel with.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Author

Yeah, that’s the best it’s gonna get with the gravelly flag probably. Here is an extremely rough execution of what it might sound like in the film:

I’m honestly not sure AI Mark is gonna work for this project, mostly because he speaks with such a deep voice when playing Luke in the sequels.

Author
Time

It’d sound wonderful as Luke in any other use case, but I agree it may not be totally viable to do a guitar solo alongside the original voice two seconds on either side.

I forget, have you generated the line as we have it in Ascendant? It could still maybe help our truncated line sound better right at the edit point.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Effeminate and annoying?*

Y’know… and I don’t mean this as a serious suggestion, it’d almost make sense to replace all his lines after being memory wiped with that flat expression.

Those Luke lines should help. I’ll try it next time I can, whenever that may be. I’m busier than I want to be!

*This is how the Owen Lars character described him in the 1999 spoof ‘Thumb Wars.’
