I wanted to take an opportunity to provide a bit of completion to this thread, as well as let the forum know of a small update as to the new set's progress. This is what was used for the current set:

Pioneer CLD-59 Elite
Transferred via firewire into a Sony DV Cam (DV format video, which is why there is a slight red shift)
Ported to PC, where noise and anti-aliasing filters were applied
CCE used for making the discs

Keep in mind this set is over 2 years old-at the time at which it was made, it was the best that could be done given the knowledge and equipment possessed.

The new transfer will be done with a Pioneer CLD-97, so noise filters will not have to be applied as the S/N ratio is the lowest of any US made model. I have seen a short test sample and it looks FAR better than the current set-I was astonished at the clarity. At this point, a DVD5 set is going to be made first as DVD9 discs are still at least 6-12 months away from being feasible for usage. It will have menus and the same PCM audio track, but will likely not be very different than the current set other than the quality increase. All 3 widescreen LD sets ('89 with corrected '92 rerelease, '93 DC and '95 Faces) will be used to ensure maximum possible quality. The knowledge gained in the last 2+ years will enable the set to have correct color balance this time, as well as being sharper and cleaner looking. Anamorphic video is one of the goals, but I am not sure quite yet. This is all very early in the stages of production, so please don't ask me for more details.
