You’re right that TCW uses a slightly abnormal aspect ratio, so it’s not ‘true’ 720p by that measure. But still, it’s perfectly sharp for the quality of the actual animation. I don’t think you’d really notice any difference, even on a large screen, which I watch on myself. The video doesn’t have any compression artefacts.
I’m of the opinion aspect ratio and resolution aren’t necessarily the end thing. Have had too many non-anamorphic, for TVs, DVDs back in the day regarding 1.78:1 and greater. BUT, those were 480i/576i, not 480p/576p. Not HD of course but NTSC and PAL.
Still it’s nice THE CLONE WARS is featured in the 2.35:1/2.40:1 aspect ratio, same as the OT and PT.
