Well, the thing I always liked was the flaming ring emitting from the Death Star upon explosion. To have fire, you need oxygen. Or so I was taught by science professors. And does oxygen exist in outer space? Nope. While it can be argued that it is burning off the oxygen that was within the Death Star, that would pretty much burn up upon the initial explosion. I wouldn't think that a ring of oxygen would be emitted from the Death Star conveniently allowing a "flaming ring" to result.
