I just want to say that the name "movies.kevin-smith" seems to be specificly about kevin-smith films. Now the title "binaries.dvd5" seems more in line with what we do and make around here, and is not specificly about a director.
I was initially for a.b.dvd5. But there's an availability issue.
Supernews and its many resellers (Airnews, ISP's, and whoever) wont add it until it's listed at ISC.org. *link repaired* It doesn't seem to be, unless I'm on the wrong part of the site.
So some people wouldn't see it. And there's the potential that a limited premium account would be insufficient for a large number of posts. Depending on how many servers have that goofy policy, it might even affect propagation. On the other hand, if they were also crossposted to a group that's on the list (even a.b.dvd) it would only be an inconvenience.
Innumerable thanks, Segaflip, for the ongoing postings, and for the a.b.dvd.fanedit effort.
Feedback time and it is not good news.............
I get the Kevin Smith group through my ISP and nothing arrived there. I have had that problem before with multi-group posts. (is this an ISP or Agent problem??)
Through Astraweb I only got a couple of parts of the par2 files - all incomplete - on the Kevin Smith and dvd5 groups. I am getting headers for the superman group now but that will take an hour or two. (UPDATE - all present on a.b.superman)
Also through Astraweb a.b.dvd takes about 8 hours to get headers from nothing and is a almost unusable!! I have a 2Mb connection too!!!!

Many/all news providers will reject a crosspost, if they don't carry the first group listed in the "Newsgroups:" part of the header. (Another bit of braindead newsserver #&%$*!!!, ahem, pardon me :-). Does your ISP's server carry a.b.dvd?
Sounds like you've solved your availability problem, for some groups, anyway. For folks who have to use a.b.dvd, you could try: 1)You could have Agent sample a day's worth of headers. I haven't tested that method, but there may be a possiblity it'll get them all and throw out the ones that are too old. In that case, start to get all headers, write down the total, stop the task, divide by retention, then get a fair amount more - and sample that # of headers. Either way, if you pick "get new headers", every time after that, it'll continue to skip the older stuff. If you already have the headers, you can set it to purge older ones in the group - easier to navigate. 2) BNR2 (freeware) can use nzb's, if they are posted, bypassing the header process. Apparently, nzb's wont work with all servers, tho'. 3) Some readers can have a server do an "XPAT" search, if the server supports it. Google. Or perhaps alt.usenet.offline-reader.* . 4) Easynews has a browse-able web interface, with 30~32 day retention, and a global search that takes about 5 seconds. 20 Gigs/month, and unused Gigs roll-over. (The NNTP side of Easynews has something like 14 days retention, but don't let that fool you).
I found a great newsgroup search engine that allows you to search by NFO file name and if the poster creates NZB files for their post then you can download the NZB file and open it in your newsgroup reader (if it supports NZB - I use Newsbin Pro which does) and you'll automatically have all the posts added to your download list. Here is the search engine.
@ segaflip - If you start creating NZB files for your posts then people could just grab that file and you could post to the bigger groups like a.b.dvd and the size the of the daily message updates wouldn't be an issue.
As it is I don't really have a problem with either a.b.superman (though a lot of garbage gets dumped here) or a.b.dvd5 (very light traffic but not as widely carried)
Downloading BLAX20 from a.b.dvd5 right now! Thanks again sega!
BLAX21 is going up to all four now, I will look into using NZB in the future. Russ just let me know if you need anyfills, I could always post the fills to which ever group for you.
With giganews I can see that blax20 made it to a.b.superman and a.b.dvd5 no problem.
As I posted earlier, everything has come up fine for me so far. But oddly enough only BLAX21+24 remains on a.b.dvd5 - It seems like incredibly short retention to me - just thought someone might like to know.
