Idea: a Batman Forever re-edit?

 (Edited)

Watching the new SE DVD, I’ve compiled a list of edits that could be done. I would do this myself, but you know, a lack of the right equipment presents a problem. All of the deleted scenes are in rough form, but someone clever could try to clean it up a bit and re-dub new soud effects and music off the Forever score CD.

1. Tone down both Two Face and the Riddler (Wouldn’t be that hard, since 99% of it is over the top anyway, you just need to cut out the 1% of “MORE over the top” footage.)

2. re-insert the deleted scenes, change the order of the early scenes (As for the “Beauty and the Batman” scene which takes Batman into a gay hair salon by mistake, you can just cut the scene to end before the women start laughing at Batman) As the original order had the WB logo, cut to Two Face’s Arkham escape, opening credits, then Bruce @ Wayne Industries, then to stop Two Face at the bank.

3. Cut the slight amount of camp that exists, like Two Face/Riddler bickering about whose entrace was better, and the butt shots near the end.

That’s prettymuch all that would be needed, however one wouldn’t be able to use the scene where Batman takes off at the beginning (“I’ll get drive thru.”) because of the existing opening titles even into the appearance of Batman in the elevator (“BLAST HIM!”). Maybe someone could paint them out, and if that, go as far as to paint-out the nipples on the Bat and Robin suits.

This is just an idea. Anyone interested? I know Greencapt was thinking of doing a BF re-edit. Just watching the new DVD, I was inspired to discuss it.

I can live with 80% of the SE additions. I even like the PT (overall). But not releasing the OOT in respectable condition? That's unacceptable.

Doc, your first post here at OT.com is about a Batman movie? That's wacked. Welcome aboard.

Well, I'm a bigger Batman fan than a Star Wars fan.

I can respect that. I haven't gotten the new set yet, but I didn't know the deleted scenes were going to be in the supplement. So they're all on the new DVD? I see another project in my future. The only scene I want to remove is that awful shootout in the street/car driving up the wall mess. What tripe! The rest of the film I can stomach, but that one was just too much. Oh, what Burton could've done with that film if given the chance.

I dare you change the title to "Batman Fever."

I'd be interested in a fan edit too. I'm watching the film now and thinking of ways to edit it. Of course, I wouldn't be able to do it justice either.

Here are some notes:

- Keep the opening logo. Cut directly to the Arkham Asylum/Two-Face escape deleted scene. Add some music and sound effects. Cut to Bruce's visit to Wayne Enterprise and his meeting with Edward. Cut some of Carrey's goofiness - basically simple dialogue he says to himself. Bruce sees the bat signal, goes into his office, takes the ride to the Batcave, and then cut to the opening titles with the names, etc. flying around. This leads back into the original opening of the film. Cut some of Two-Face's stuff. I noticed he tends to emphasis his grunts, etc. Maybe these could be muted out? If possible, add a bit of the extended scene where Two-Face says Batman is a killer. This was important in the script (his guilt about his parent's death), but I don't know if it's necessary in the film.

Here are some notes I made of how a fan edit may play out if anyone cares:

- Opening Warners Logo
- DELETED SCENE: Arkham Asylum/Two-Face's escape (with added music and sound effects)
- Bruce's inspection of Wayne Enterprise (cut some of Edward's Lines)
- Bruce sees the Bat signal, leaves, and uses the transportation device in his office that leads to the Batcave
- Opening Titles, the suiting up sequence, Chase's intro, Two-Face's intron, the Bank sequence, and Two-Face's getaway
- Edward murders Stickley and the next morning
- Edward's apartment scene & putting up riddle at Wayne Manor
- Bruce's meeting with Chase Meridian (breaking in her door, etc)
- The Circus sequence
- Dick arriving at Wayne Manor
- Bruce & Alfred talk about Bruce's guilt
- DELETED SCENE: Dick's Pain (possibly later in the film)
- The Bat signal, Batman meets Chase on the rooftop (replacing the Batmobile driving on walls scene)
- Two-Face's hideout and Riddler introduction (cut the previous scene where Edward is deciding what to call himself)
- The Washroom scene with Dick's kung-fu drying abilities (not necessary but it sets up his skills)
- DIck asking about the door/Batcave entrance
- Riddler & Two-Face's crime spree
- Dick breaks into the Batcave
- Bruce's second meeting with Chase (interrupted by Alfred's call)
- Dick's night out with the Batmobile
- Bruce and Dick discussing vengeance ("we're the same")
- The Ritz Gotham: Edward's unveiling of the new box, Bruce uses the box, and Two-Face crashes the party
- The sequence at the abandoned subway, Dick saving Bruce's life
- Bruce & Dick arguing in the Batcave
- DELETED/EXTENDED SCENE: Bruce's dilemma (recut with some of the material already in the film and cut some of the lame TV show)
- Baman going to Chase's apartment at night
- Riddler and Two-Face discover Bruce's secret
- Bruce shutting down the Batcave and telling Dick "Batman is no more"
- Bruce and Chase's date at Wayne Manor
- Riddler and Two-Face break in and blow up the Batcave, take Chase, and shoot Bruce
- Bruce wakes up
- Riddler and Chase ("Batman, coming for you?") and the new Bat signal
- DELETED SCENE: Secrets of the Batcave (with added music and sound effects)
- Bruce and Alfred solve the riddles
- And basically the rest of the film is as it is

This doesn't account for all the silliness in Tommy Lee Jones' and Jim Carrey's performances though.

LOL! If this were characterized as a "CUT SCENE" I'd be LOLing even harder.

Oooooohhhh .... harder ... I made another pun on top of that.

on top of ... And another one right there.

I'm bringing tears to my own eyes here Shifty.

*sigh*

Okay ... now that's out of the way, this edit sounds really cool.

Yeah, I got a good laugh out of it too when the DVD specs were announced. That' actually the title of the deleted scene from the menu.

So are you going to be doing this project?

I may. No immediate plans, but if it's a cold and boring winter I may. Ep III commences today with the arrival of the DVD. That'll take a while. Then Bram Stoker's Dracula. Maybe after that as I have no other plans to edit films afterward. Ep III will take some time of course.

I'm pretty new to all this fan-edit stuff, but as was mentioned earlier, GreenCapt did a great job with his B&R cut.

Taking inspiration from that, here's my attempt at the first scene. Would appreciate your comments before I go any further with it!

Cheers

Travel back in time, murder Joel Scummaker and Val Killjoy - that might make this flick watchable.

I personally find it pretty entertaining. It also scores some points for actually trying to delve into Bruce's psyche. Out of the Burton/Schumacher Bat-films, I rank it no. 2 after Batman Returns.

A fan edit would be cool, but I think a version restoring Schumaker's intial vision should also be done. Meaning yes, leave the nipples and car climbing a wall, etc.

I have a cool list of things that could be done in BF to become a much better Batman movie. It may include score replacement, but the recent NSNA re-edit has proven that it is NOT impossible.

Wanna bring it in? The list of suggestiosn, I mean...

I wouldn't mind seeing your ideas.

I guess the only thing holding back a Batman Forever edit is the quality of the deleted scenes, while pretty good, they would still bring viewers out of the film due to the rough picture and sound quality.
