"I want that ship"

I just remembered...this has plagued me for countless years. I figure this is the place I might find an answer.

Both myself and a friend of mine remember Darth Vader saying "I want that ship" as the Falcon takes off from Hoth. He DOES say that line in another place (my memory is thankfully getting a little fuzzy. I haven't watched it in years in the hopes that I can forget it a little and see it fresher), but we both remembered it being specifically said as the Falcon was taking off. POSSIBLY as it leaves Tatooine in ANH.

My only conclusion was that it must have been dubbed into that scene in the story book version. You may remember, there were kids books with records (turn the page when you hear R2D2 beep like this...) where the record would read the book with the sounds while you read the words and looked at the pictures. I don't know for sure, but it was the only conclusion I could come to.

So the question for the forum: was there ever a version, TV spot, anything that had Vader say that line in that context? Anyone else remember this?

I don't remember it being used as the Falcon is taking off from Hoth or Tatooine. I remember it when Vader is on the bridge of the Executor in ESB and he says it to one of his admirals/captains/whoever.

Starboy, I think you'll find it WAS on the Empire Strikes Back read along book. I have this at home, and this line is definitely spoken by Vader as the Falcon escapes Hoth.

But yes he also says it as part of a longer line of dialogue later in the film:

"Asteroids, do not concern me Admiral, I want that ship, not excuses" etc etc.

Vader says it to Snowtroopers after the Falcon escapes Hoth in the comic.

Or, as how David Prowse claims he said the line when they were filming:

"Hemorroids do not concern me Admiral, I want that s***!"
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Boy, I'd love to hear the audio recorded on-set to verify that one!

My love for the OT aside, I think I would have enjoyed being onset for the filming of the OT simply for the fun they must have had.
That Prowse line would be an example.
"You don't own space, so stop actin' like you do."

I was expecting to see it on the DVDs documentary feature, but aparently it's not there. He claimed to have said that line on numerous interviews, aparently he was kinda pissed that he was being dubbed, and he didn't care if he flubbed his lines or said it wrong, it wouldn't matter anyway.

Yes. I distinctly remember this from the theatrical release and 1980’s VHS. The Falcon flies over his head, out the hangar door and then straight up. I recall it cut to the exterior shot of the Falcon flying away, then back to Vader in the hangar where he says “I want that ship” to the Snowtroopers with him.

I never saw the audio storybook.

I bet it was cut because of the repetition of that line when he says “I want that ship, Admiral, not excuses.” The later line is more informative to the plot, and it would be hard to cut without missing a more important character interaction. The earlier line was so iconic though. I think Lucas (or someone) was being overly perfectionistic by cutting what they thought was a cinematic literary mistake of a repeated phrase.

I personally think it would be better with this “mistake” left intact. Nobody’s perfect. Vader’s OCD anyway. Of course he would repeat himself. Besides it’s not like “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” isn’t a running joke through the whole franchise.

We have audio from TESB prints from 1980, and nowhere is this line to be heard - except when Vader is on the star destroyer.
