“I’m condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them.” Think I saw this coming a few episodes ago in the conversation between Luthen and Saw , which is what I alluded to in my previous post . I don’t care though ,as this was brilliant acting this week ! (Although , I’m not 100 percent sure I’m right about that plot point, but looking more likely to me now ) ,will have to keep watching to see how it plays out . Personally , based on this week’s episode alone , I think this show deserves an Emmy award . Best acting I have seen in Star Wars ANYTHING ! Not sure how they will top this episode going forward , but I am here for the ride . I was on the edge of my seat the whole episode . Bravo !

So, I just watched episode 10 and I’m effing ecstatic about how good this is. It’s definitely the best Disney Star Wars show but in my opinion, it’s best Star Wars anything since at least Return of the Jedi, with the possible exception of the Thrawn trilogy.

No love for Rogue One?

Episode 10 might be the single best episode of tv I’ve ever watched. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. My hands were literally shaking during the climax it was so tense and exciting. And it’s not like it was a new idea or story that’s never been done before. But it was done SO SO well, from the build up to the execution. An absolute masterclass in how to execute a classic trope.

And good gravy the dialogue and acting from Mon Mothma and Luthen!! This show has absolutely BLOWN past any expectations I had. Just phenomenal in every respect.

Not really. Of the Disney movies, I liked Solo the most. Rogue One didn’t really make me care about any of the characters. I suppose it might actually get better after watching Andor.

In hindsight, maybe the events of Rogue One would have been better as the series finale for Andor. I’m sure fan editors will get on that when Andor wraps up.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

I’m glad you said Return of the Jedi and not Empire Strikes Back! My brother often used ESB when saying “this is the best Star Wars since…” and I feel it’s a little unfair to ROTJ. It may be the most flawed of the original trilogy, but it also has some of the best and most important moments. Everything with Luke/Vader/Palpatine is perfect, and if that story arc didn’t land well, we might not have had any Star Wars afterward.

“Best one since Empire” has become practically a cliche line that people say nearly every time a new Star Wars thing comes out. But it has the implication that that also means “better than RotJ,” when really, I don’t think post-OT Lucasfilm has topped RotJ yet, at least as far as movies go. Andor is hard to compare to the movies, because it’s a different medium, but I get the impression from people that it’s possibly better than Rogue One because it’s Tony Gilroy’s singular vision that he didn’t have to compromise on during reshoots and rewrites.

I would love to see the other version of Rogue One.

Disney is laying off workers because they’re losing money, they could just add movies and shows on Disney+ that have different endings, deleted scenes, or that was never seen before and charge them to get to watch it

They could even add the Original Trilogy unaltered for $20-30 dollars and make a fortune from just that.

The released cut of Rogue One is already Tony Gilroy’s re-edit.

Also, as much as I’m loving the show - and I am, very much - I think it’s a far cry away from Star Wars and Empire. Apples and oranges obviously (comparing movies and TV is always hard, especially when Andor does something so different than really any of the movies) but just because something is more “mature”, “serious” and “dark” doesn’t mean it’s better by default. Andor is excellently written, directed, shot, yes. But so is Star Wars. In fact it’s more than that, it might be the best one ever, or amongst them, and it’s widely regarded as that. Again, Andor is really, really excellent TV, but I think it’s very unfair to say this is the best Star Wars-related media in any genre when we have two of the best films ever made in our ranks.

Without a doubt it’s really refreshing and great to see a new take on this universe that’s executed this well, which is where the apples and oranges bit comes in, but overall I still prefer the escapism, simplicity, vibe and mood that the OT goes for. I understand the appeal of this, especially in the late prestige TV era that we’re in, but I’m definitely still in the SW/TESB camp, and I felt like briefly defending them here.

Maybe it’s just the limited circles I run in but I haven’t seen many people claiming this is better than the OT. But I have seen plenty of people (myself included) sing its praises for all the strengths you mention. It’s flipping GREAT television and it lives up to the high mark set by the OT that preceded it while also doing something quite fresh and different than said OT. It’s not really “better” but it is really good and it’s also new and those things have people excited.

I was pretty ready to say Andor was probably the best Star Wars thing ever produced tbh. Frankly, it just aligns with what my tastes in media have become since I first saw the movies as a child.

BUT I put ESB on the other day and it still rules so hard, and in ways Andor will never have ambition for.

Like, I’m at a place where Andor’s imagination for the universe is more meaningful to me now, but the originals’ combination of elements is so idiosyncratic and likeable, I can still admire them as an adult, their place in culture, in cinematic history, and how it makes me feel. I feel like I shouldn’t trust that feeling, because it comes with so much nostalgia and baggage - maybe it’s not objective! But I really think I would still adore them as fun, odd films if I was just seeing them for the first time.

Between Andor and the OT, I think their mutual existences just make each other better.

Fantastic episode. Loved the tribute to Colin Cantwell.

That was very cool to see and a nice connection to 1977. Works perfectly within this series.

These are pretty much my thoughts as well.

Predictions for episode 12!

  • Luthen, Cinta, Vel, and Cassian all meet at Marva’s funeral
  • Syril is also there
  • Bix identifies Luthen via Dedra’s surveillance
  • This puts Kleya & the shop in immense danger and Luthen must go into exile (with Cassian in tow)
  • Syril’s incompetence will allow their escape. Hopefully this leads to Dedra killing Syril. I can’t wait for that guy to die.
  • Mon will accept the the mob boss’s offer

Season 2 has a lot of ground to cover in terms of the Rebellion growing, that’s for sure.

I get the what Octorox is feeling about Andor missing the escapism of Star Wars and Empire. The way I see it, I guess a more in universe perspective, but I kind of associate the fairy tale and space opera aspects of Star Wars with the Jedi and the Force. The Force is magic, and Jedi are wizards. During these dark times, the magic is dead and the wizards are all gone. It is bleak because that spirituality, faith, and hope has been snuffed out. While it might not have a great ring to it, this is why I think A New Hope works well as a subtitle for the original Star Wars film. With Obi-Wan and Luke, the mysticism is returning and the universe comes into form as a space fantasy.

For me, that is how I feel like you can have a more grounded show like Andor, as well as a fairy tale like the Original Trilogy, and they can coexist fairly well.

And to me, it adds weight to the importance of the Jedi, and they’re importance as a symbol of individuals who can make the impossible happen. Clearly we see this best exemplified with Luke Skywalker in the OT and ST.

Regarding episode 11, there were a lot of things I loved about it, but I think the highlight for me was Genevieve O’Reilly’s acting. I understand some people feeling like Mon Mothma’s scenes are feeling repetitive because they all take place in her house, but man, I really love this dynamic they created with her and her family. Seeing the hard choices she has to make is so interesting to watch. And I think Mothma dealing with the realization that even though she is fighting for a better, more just galaxy for not only the people of the galaxy, but also her daughter, only to see her daughter embrace conservative and traditional ideology of her home world that Mon appears to despise. It is tragic, and adds so much to the leader of the rebellion that we previously knew so little about.

I mean, Genevieve is literally just talking about money laundering but her performance, damn, the emotion you see behind her eyes. You can feel the weight she has on her shoulders. The risk she is putting herself and her family in, and the cost of solving that problem… wow, just the way she looks at her daughter in that final shot of her.

EDIT: Also, I’m sick atm and on medication, so I don’t know if this was some speculation I read online or an idea that popped into my own drugged up brain, but…

…for some reason I have this idea that Maarva’s brick will not only be mixed with her ashes, but some explosive substance, and used as some form of sabotage against the Empire. It would be a cool way to give her the last hurrah even in death. Cool world building btw.

The funeral and all the build up to it was simply perfect and hit deeper than I would have ever imagined, especially in context with everything going on in this world. I haven’t watched the whole episode yet, because I had to take a break and that broke the flow of the episode so I decided to let it rest for now and give it a complete watch tomorrow.

The only thing subtracting from this series (which I wasn’t fond of a first, I’ll admit) is the fact that Cassian isn’t an original character to it. Honestly Rogue One doesn’t even remotely play in the same league.

Anyone noticing Mon Mothma’s hair getting shorter and shorter each episode?

I loved this episode, looking forward to season 2.

Mon Mothma is a MVP in this season and doesn’t get enough credit.
I love pretty much every second of the entire season of this show.

I love how

Mothma uses her knowledge of her driver’s role to set up her husband as the fall guy and get the ISB suspicions off of herself
