ANDOR - Disney+ Series - A General Discussion Thread — Page 13

It’s really hard for me to sit down and list out all of the things I’m enjoying about the show. I never posted a message about the previous episode, but I love how Diego Luna played up the sheer panic Cassian was experiencing when he was slowly coming to terms that he was gonna be stuck in that prison for at least six years. I mean he didn’t do anything and he is trapped in hell now.

Andy Serkis was a pleasant surprise! I had no idea he was appearing in this. And his acting has been fantastic. As others have said, him slowly accepting that him playing by the rules meant absolutely nothing was fun to watch.
I really felt bad for Ulaf. It’s a small detail but I like how the rest of the table was more concerned with helping him and encouraging him rather than being mad that he was slowing them down. I’m sure that a part of them was bothered by it, but they never blamed him for it. It was nice to see that bit of humanity in such a terrible environment like that.

Syril is such an interesting character. I think someone may have said this but his character is like an anti-Dale Cooper. He loves the law, just like Coop does, appreciate a good suit, but just replace the FBI with the ISB. Completely self-centered instead of the selfless special agent. Both kinda pale, square jaw and slicked back dark hair. I love it.

His scene with Deedra was a bit surprising. A part of me would be happy and not surprised if Syril got some karma for his naïveté, but a part of me would love to see a fucked-up romance between the two characters. Or the very least, Deedra using him a completely loyal servant while never reciprocating that admiration he holds for her. The way Deedra’s assistant kept being a little too proactive makes me think she is going to want to replace him. Who better than someone who vowed to never lie to her?

I love how we’re really getting to expand on Mon Mothma as a person. I mean, she is the leader of the rebellion and we only got one scene in the OT with her and her importance is never really highlighted. She’s not a part of the Skywalker family but she is in the center of this battle for democracy. Interesting to see her journey develop.

Cooling getting to see Saw again. It was a real pleasure getting to see Skarsgard and Whittaker act together.

My whole take on the prisoner transfer mistake is similar to Nev’s. One of the facilities we saw during the approach to Cassian’s prison is probably an even higher security prison for the people who will prisoners for life. We kind of saw how short-handed the guards are when Cassian was brought in, so they likely just slipped up and thought he was coming in instead of going out.

A part of me also wondered if this is a new thing, maybe since PORD they have decided to keep the prisoners. So the orders came in that his prison sentence started over, they put him back on a different floor that had a space that needed filling without considering how the prisoners would react. So they killed the whole floor once they began to riot. Now they have to figure out how they are going to handle it going forward.

" We need the Empire to help , we need them angry , we need them coming down hard ." - Luthen to Saw in the previous episode . Well , maybe a red herring or grasping at straws here , but we never saw those 100 prisoners get eliminated , nor did Andor’s group of prisoners .They only heard about it from others . I wonder if Luthen has a contact in the prison . The medic who euthenized Ulaf maybe ? perhaps the guy who has been signing across the way ? Even Melshi perhaps ?

I think Kino Loy (Serkis) will help Cassian Andor escape and/or communicate to Luthen. His escape will lead up to a time jump 4 or 3 years BBY after the 12th episode.

I meant he could just help him, and he doesn’t know Luthen at all. If Kino does know Luthen, he’s not going to advertise it to anyone for fear of getting time added to his sentence.

I could see him joining forces with the Rebellion, but eventually dying in battle, maybe the same battle that sees Saw Gerrera badly injured.

I think it’s a big theme of Andor that an authoritarian regime doesn’t care if you play by the rules. If you get in their line of fire, there will be no mercy for you. Timm helped the Corpos, but he got killed by them anyway. Clem was trying to break up a riot and keep things peaceful, and the Empire killed him anyway. For years Kino has been effectively acting to benefit the Empire, keeping his workers “in line” and as productive as possible, but he’s ultimately trapped there just like everyone else.

From what the doctor said to Cassian & Kino this may have been the first time they recycled a prisoner. In other words, we’re seeing another impact of the Emperor’s new law, PORD. Cassian got a six-year sentence rather than six months; the existing prisoners had their sentences doubled; & now no-one is really released.

The mistake seems to be that they put this prisoner back inside the same (part of) the prison where he was recognised. We do see six other landing platforms besides the one Cassian is brought to. Though it’s unclear if they are connected.

Communication between the levels is clearly limited as the scenes with the sign language conversations between levels show.

Chandrila is beginning to seem like the planet where all the wealthy and ignorant people are from.

I think this is just because the only Chandrilans we’ve met are the ones who would travel or move to Coruscant. Tay made it pretty clear that Mon’s way of life on Coruscant is much fancier than the usual Chandrilan lifestyle. I’m hoping we actually get to see Chandrila sometime, and maybe some of its more normal denizens, but the apparent introduction of a Chandrilan mob boss does not achieve that goal.

What exactly do we think happened with Level 2? Did a guy think he was getting released from Level 4, but really he was just reassigned to Level 2, and when the Level 2 prisoners realized the truth, they rioted? Or was he supposed to be released but they made a bureaucratic error? Or…something else? The fact that frying an entire level took so much power that it knocked out power elsewhere in the prison temporarily has interesting implications for the potential of a full-scale riot. On the other hand, the prison does not seem all that difficult to completely flood if commanding officers on the highest level deem it necessary.

This continues to be a fantastic series. It’s the first Star Wars content I’ve really been gripped by since the OT. The writing, acting & directing are top notch. It’s a great series as well as a great Star Wars story.

Gilroy has assembled a brilliant cast and crew & I hope at least some of the writers and directors will work on other Star Wars projects, whether films or another (possibly connected) series.

Just rewatched the last 2 episodes with a friend and it’s really quite disturbing when the power goes out in the prison, when you know the reason why. It’s unsettling anyway due to the tension and the fantastic sound design but more so in context.

This is the only Star Wars series I’ve rewatched. There’s so much to savour.

Apart from Visions, this is the only series I have watched again too. Everything about it grips me and pulls me into the story and the characters in it. Even for the Imperials! Even Syril Karn!

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

This is so true. Every little choice like the acting, set design, sound, camera placement, editing, it all adds so much to the story and episode.

Oh yes, I did rewatch a couple of episodes of Visions too. But Andor deserves multiple viewings.

You can tell a mile off this is going to be yet another fantastic end-of-an-arc episode. I hope those guards on Narkina get a taste of their own medicine.

I finished binging this last night and I have to say that I am not as impressed as others seem to be. I found the story kind of slow. I’m still waiting for the culmination of Cassian’s line to Jyn Erso that he has done some questionable things. This is supposed to be the first of two seasons and I feel this hasn’t taken us that far.

This story takes place in the same universe as Rebels. Rebels covered the years up to ANH and we me some of the same characters and Bail Organa’s end of the Rebel Alliance.

I truly enjoyed Obi-wan Kenobi more than this. It is definitely better orchestrated than The Book of Boba Fett, but I would not call it the best Star Wars series by any stretch of the imagination. Mandalorian has the action and story. Obi-wan has story. This has a little of both moving at a very slow pace. And while I appreciate the view inside an Imperial work prison, That was not something I would have included. An how has the empire not connected that Cassian is in their prison? Them finding out just as he breaks out would be great tension and would have made a great season finale. But this series is moving way too slow Slower than Obi-wan Kenobi. I have found many episodes hard to get interested in. I loved the characters.

I think this and Obi-wan have forgotten the Lucas-ism - faster and more intense. That is something BOBF had, even if the story had cohesion issues.

Let’s hope season 2 is better.

Well episode 10 was terrific! This show is just phenomenal on all scales of acting, writing and pacing. Sad there are only 2 episodes left but at least we have an epic season 2 to look forward to.

Luthan, Kino, and Mon Mothma with her thug, all the conversations and acting in this episode topped even their usual high standards.

That whole sequence at the prison was just so brilliantly done. The groundwork, the tension, the buildup, and then the release, for so many scenes in Andor.

This really is the best Star Wars in a long, long time.

You are right, and we should enjoy it while this lasts.

And hope we see more similar quality in the any of the other new series.

The new episode was fantastic, Andy Serkis and Diego Luna give terrific performances.

Spoilers:

I sure hope Kino survived and isn’t tortured, maybe Andor goes back for him after they acquire a ship. I hope that’s not the last time we see him.

I think next season will feel closer to Rogue One and things start falling into place, like finding K2SO and reprogramming him, Yavin IV, more Saw Gerrera, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa meeting and joining sides. The story arcs for Luthen, Dedra, Syril, and the rest of them concluding.

The final episode (S2) ending with going to break Jyn Erso out and why she’s so important to their cause.

This series might be the single best piece of Star Wars media ever made and I’m not exaggerating.

As much as I like the unknown (to me anyways) actor playing Davo/the Chandrillian gangster whenever I watch those scenes I think oh geez what a missed opportunity to bring Willem Dafoe into the franchise.

I’ll stand by that, with Mando holding a distant 2nd place.
