Question about A New Hope: Special Edition 1997

The color timing for ANH:SE 1997 is sourced from a Technicolor print, so, unlike the DVD/Blu-ray’s, the colors you see for the Theatrical footage are basically how they’re supposed to look. Between the US and Japan Laserdisc releases, the transfer for the Japan Laserdisc looks more similar to the Technicolor print.

Looking at these releases here, it’s most likely that the transfer for the LDs released in 1997 are both identical, but for the 2000 re-release here, is the transfer also identical or somewhat different?

The Japanese release is identical. It only is darker because its NTSC-J. Same DNR and same telecine. Not theatrically accurate.

Doesn’t NTSC-J only apply to television broadcasts? I thought home video was just NTSC.

No. It applies for home video releases too.
