Why would you want to go to Duke, of all places?

I'm not exactly sure how the university admission thing works in america. What do they take in consideration? Are there any exams?
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. Thanks.

For those who don't know, UNC at Chapel Hill is among the top 30 schools in North America.

(and though Duke is supposedly within the top 10, its too religious for me)

Typically, they look at your high school grades and one of 2 national tests that most high schoolers take...the SAT or the ACT.
I believe more emphasis is put on the national test score.

Once you get accepted, they usually have placement exams to determine what classes you should take. (At my university, I had to take an English exam and a Math exam).

Yes, and essays are becoming increasingly important in the admissions process. Carolina requires a long one and a short one according to their prompts, and a personal statement on anything you want it to be.

I was looking at average scores for admissions last semester and I'm above and beyond all of them. So I'm good in that area, hopefully my GPA and SAT will compensate for the little/no EC activities I have(solely Science Club).

Also, since I've passed AP Exams for Eng and History(and will most assuredly pass AP Gov, EngIV, and Calculus next May), I can place out of certain Freshman and Sophmore classes.

BTW, Chalts, what did you make on the new SAT?

Is it sad that I already read this thread months ago despite not having signed up until 2013?
