Just got the discs, thanks JackLucas. I can send copies to a couple people or trade, please pm me.
Didn't have time to watch the whole thing, but I can say that the picture quality isn't the greatest, but that isn't what matters

Holy Cow man! Get usenet access for the Star Wars posts, if nothing else! You can get a month of unlimited access for around $15USD from usenetserver.com or newshosting.com, it is SO worth it. You can also get a 3 day free trial with giganews.com with a valid 16 digits Alternatively, there are even cheaper, capped monthly plans, from these and other providers. If you're a Star Wars Geek looking to add some edit's to your collection, usenet handily obliterates "toe-rents" any day of the week! Once you go usenet, you never look back to the old days of p2p - ha!, how archaic it was

p.s. : Thanks so much to Segaflip again, for this and all your wonderful posts - people like you help the usenet world go round

I received this a couple days ago. Thanks so much, JackLucas! Again, I'm having issues and unfortunately won't be able to PIF right now. However, later on I may have these things resolved, and if anyone still needs a copy, I'll hopefully be an option.

Thanks!

No problem. Just as long as I get a copy of your edit when it is done.

Oh, absolutely not, man. I'm just trying to cue ppl in on the ins and outs of the usenet world. For those of you who don't know what they are and how to use them, do a little research on the subject of newsgroups and you will find that they are not as difficult to access and understand than most people would think. And happy leeching, once you choose a provider. ISP newsservers usually have a very short retention cycle, and/or capped downloads, in addition to only having a small number of the binary groups that exist - thus everyone should fork out a few bucks a month for some premium access, it's literally a steal I personally use Usenetserver, good price and (usually) great retention/completion, not counting the recent total network failure on their part - which is a fluke, at best.

To all the Star Wars Geeks out there without usenet access : GET IT! Segaflip's posts alone will make you happy you did

Is there anyone who is willing to send me a copy of this?

Anyone from the US that can Pay it Forward to a fellow SW fan? I will return the favor.

Got to agree with bongloads and everybody else who has encouraged newsgroups use. I just started last month and it has been immensely useful, well worth the extra bucks to get downloads about 8x faster than what I got out of torrenting.
That said, I can help out a few with a copy of this, if you are willing to pay it forward, especially if you are still on dial-up. Just PM me.

Man, I didn't realize this sucker would be so popular. I would have created custom menus instead of slapping on my old ones.

No offense, MBJ, but I don't think that shiny menus would really enhance this disc. I see it as the first chance people who don't frequent SW conventions or similar events to get their hands on a item like this. I know that's my attraction to it...

LOL....none taken.

This transfer pretty much lies somewhere in the ballpark of watching the Holiday Special, though for decidedly different reasons.

(Un)fortunately I will be going on vacation next week, so unless I get your address tonight/tomorrow morning I won't be able to send out any copies until two mondays from now.

Wow. Stunningly horrible, as expected. Hell, even worse. I know this is a transfer of a generations-old VHS, but still. It seems that the encoder had a very difficult time with this tape, as the entire film is laden with DVDShrink-like blockiness. It's like a DVDShrink of a millionth-generation VHS, on crack. If it weren't for the blockiness, it might be ALMOST watchable. I would love to get my hands on an actual VHS and make the transfer myself, utilizing an ACTUAL encoder, as whatever was used for this particular transfer has completely ruined whatever life the original VHS still had to it It's nice to finally own, in any form, but I can't in good conscience give copies of this to anyone I actually like. If anyone has a real VHS of this, or a raw, unencoded transfer, please PM me and we'll see what we can work out.

I have the real VHS and I can assure you that you're not going to get a better image out of it. MeBeJedi knows what he's doing when it comes to video encoding and compression and that's the best it's going to look on a single-layer DVD. It probably won't look much better on a dual-layer. The degredation of the VHS made it very hard to compress properly. Think about it, it creates a lot more movement and a lot more random colors than would have been present in the film otherwise. Basically what I'm saying is you should really know wtf you're talking about before you talk.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

the closest thing we have to the theatrical release in good quality is ocpmovies star wars classic edition, which among other things re-creates the original opening crawl pre-anh. Then theres the edit droid with the mono mix.
now if only at some point in the future someone could come across a print of a pre-anh 16mm or 35mm star wars print.

too bad the 70mm's no longer exist because i'd love to see the whole trilogy in this format.

Agreed. In many cases, the VCR couldn't even track properly. Besides, if someone's going to complain about the "blockiness" of what was an exceptionally bad picture to begin with...well, I don't think anything's going to be good enough for them.

True enough, indeed. And I completely understand the encoder having trouble with a bad, old source. But what really irks me is that it appears to have been done with a very low-quality encoder; ie: DVDShrink, or the like. Personally, I would have used Cinema Craft -as I do for all my backups- and pass it to the maximum - when you're dealing with a shitty source, it is very important to retain everything possible. The blockiness is clearly the fault of the software used, and not the source or the person doing the work. And that's a damn shame.

I got mine burned to disc today. Glad to see that it is just as good quality as the version I have on tape. I went ahead and made a cover for it:

If you want a full size, hi-res version, just print out this one at 7.25 inches high. You can't mess with perfection!
